What's in your past that can be affecting your present?

Deuteronomy 31:6-8
"Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you." Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, "Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the land that the LORD has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall put them in possession of it. It is the LORD who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed."

If we did not have a God who makes all things new this diagram would be pretty depressing. But, we do have a God that not only makes all things new, but also makes all things work together for good for those of us that are called by His name--Christians.

I have battled many of the things in this diagram from being abandoned, neglected emotionally and traumatized. I experienced and at times still do experience pain in my body due to an inability to release stress. I have dealt with most of the things in the diagram above but the Lord has been faithful through it all. I may not have recognized the reason, but it is crystal clear now. God is my healer. I had to do a lot of the work to renew my mind, forgive, acquire knowledge and accept my freedom brought in Christ. You have that choice too.

The word of God renews my mind. The word of God has triumphed over death. So, any areas of my brain, my mind, my body and my spirit can be resurrected by the same resurrection power that raised Christ from the dead. God is a good God, and He is our Father with all the power we need to be overcomers and victorious in this life.

It matters more where I am going, (Heaven) than where I am from (Genes). I say this, because regardless of what is in my DND and my gene pool, the blood of Christ in my life triumphs over all of my enemies. That means the enemies of my life both in the flesh (the body) and in the blood line.

If you are reading this today make no mistake, you do not need to be depressed or anxious about anything. You and I can pray about everything. No weapon formed against us can prosper. Our heavenly Father knows everything we have gone through and He will never leave us. He is with us right now, today He is as close as the mention of His name.

ACTION STEP:  Reach out to God and ask Him to heal your broken places. Ask God, your Father to come and show you where He was during those times you were traumatized and let Him show you. Allow God to be there for you now as an adult. See your past through the new eyes God gives us. You and God have got this.

I believe in you and you need to believe in yourself.

Why do we act the way we do? Is there hope for the traumatized?

1 Peter 4:12 NIV
"Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you."

Yesterday's responses to my Blog were overwhelming. I am guessing there were a lot of "Me too's" out there in media world? If so, then welcome back today, as I continue to delve into the attributes of CPTSD as well as CEN, Abandonment and many other trauma's too numerous to mention; all of which change us forever and now we are learning change not only our lives, but the lives of our children and on it goes.

From the graph below you can see titles and sub-titles or groupings of areas that can be and many times are affected by experiencing trauma as a child. Every area deals with how we respond to life around us. The effects are often traumatizing themselves. Many of us try to hide all that is going on inside of us, instead of dealing with it. We are often surprised when once again like Whac-a-Mole the thing we fear exposing, pops it's head up once again. We realize we are acting like a petulant child, but it's as though we are standing beside ourself watching ourself but can't stop the performance. Any "Me too's" out there today?

The only real help for stopping this scenario from repeating itself is to stop and breathe, ground yourself and stop being driven. I once heard the Lord say this, "Satan drives-Jesus leads." When you feel driven to keep on talking, or controlling, or performing or whatever it is you do? Stop. Excuse yourself for a moment and go get a drink of water, a breath of fresh air or even a toilet break. Do something to bring yourself back into the present. Talk to yourself. Calm yourself down. You've got this. The Lord gives grace to the humble. So, call upon Him. He knows better than you and I do, what we have been through. He was there. He tells us in His Word He never leaves us or forsakes us. We will get through this, and each time we do--we get stronger.

ACTION STEP:  My coach encouraged me to read 10 books on the subject I identified that was the North Star of my life. This changed my life, and continues to change my life. It was my Ah-Ha moment. Things clicked. I was energized. Today, I give one hour a day to studying the subject of childhood abandonment and all that goes with being abandoned. My new book coming out in September is called, The Blue Jean Jacket - "How abandonment affects your Health, Wealth & Relationships." This book is my life story.  I got a coach learned what I didn't know and that changed my life--it can do the same for you.

Find a good coach, counselor or pastor that can walk you through the areas you can't see. It does no good to slap a blind man, and say, "Look, look," you know that wouldn't help them to see. Slapping a blind man would be unfair and mean. So, why do we slap ourselves? Why do we treat ourselves worse when we fail to act, or fail to say what we should? Be nice to yourself. You are your best investment. Treat yourself with the same respect you would treat others.

Until tomorrow...

I believe in you and you need to believe in yourself.

Third Degree Mother Hunger and Childhood PTSD, CEN and Abandonment--What you don't know can hurt you.

Deuteronomy 31:6 ESV
"Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”

When writing my book needless to say, I remembered little details that started to make big differences. I remembered things my parents, aunts and uncles had said in conversations. This catapulted me into our local courthouse for some crime investigation. I felt like Columbo or Nancy Drew digging into the catacombs of my past.

Interesting, that the word catapult is a military term because it awakened the warrior in me to fight for my freedom, from what was unseen but deadly--a generational curse of CPTSD (Childhood Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) was at work in my DNA. Also, the word catacombs that I used above, means underground cemetery. Perhaps, the reason I was struggling with this enemy, was that it was (in-a-me) that's right, in me. Did you ever think that what you are fighting is actually coursing through your veins? No? Me neither, until I began to learn what I didn't know. No wonder in Hosea 4:6 it says, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge..."

What we do not know can be destroying our lives and be passed down to those we love. It is time to do some investigating. Why do we act the way we do? It is not just our personality type, though we thank you Tim LaHaye--great book. It is what we are made of. The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk, MD is a great book to get you started. Needless, to say the Bible stories tell it all, if you follow the storylines of the heroes and heroines. Our sins do find us out.
Picture
As an adult of Childhood Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Childhood Emotional Neglect and Abandonment I experience several things that adults from healthy childhood backgrounds do not, such as high anxiety, inappropriate outburst of anger or laughter as if trying to be dramatic, when in fact I am trying very hard to suppress my emotions. This propensity causes me to distrust others and myself, which leads to lower self-esteem. Confidence leaves like a fast train and I am left in the wake of, why is the happening to me once again? And that, is only one of the many things we fight.

If you are screaming, "Me too, me too, me too" then, maybe it's time to have a little talk with Jesus, a counselor or even a coach like myself to have a serious discussion. It can help. It helped me and it is still helping me. There is hope. Jesus blood cleanses ours. You read that right. Jesus's blood can clean our dirty and marred backgrounds that have changed our mental grids, caused us to think we are less than, and created a thought process that gets us on a hamster wheel running patterns that are self-destructive. Perhaps, stopping us from reaching our God given destiny and being the best version of us we were meant to be.

ACTION STEP: Today, start paying attention to what you feel instead of trying to ignore or suppress, and deny the feelings you are having. Maybe keep a journal starting today and label it, "My journey to wholeness." Today is the day the Lord has made so let's rejoice and be glad in it. We can take what happen to us and allow God to work through us. Together we are better.

Be sure to register for the WOW 2022 INTENSIVE to be held at the Waterfront Marriott September 1-3, 2022 with some powerful guest speakers. This is the year you do not want to miss. Intensive is over at noon on Saturday, so you can still have plenty of time to enjoy your Labor Day events. "Ubuntu-I am because we are" is our theme. Enjoy early bird pricing today.

Exodus 18:24-26
"
Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he said. He chose capable men from all Israel and made them leaders of the people, officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.  They served as judges for the people at all times. The difficult cases they brought to Moses, but the simple ones they decided themselves."

Yesterday I started this message, so I suggest you read yesterday's blog first.

Picking up on our learning curve from lessons we can learn from Moses and Jethro.

lesson 1: Disciple family first (Exodus 18:5)

God expects mom and dad to raise their children to know Him and to love Him.

Jesus tells us that our primary responsibility as His followers is to teach and make disciples.

Doesn’t it make sense that a parent who follows Christ would want to teach their children first?

Moses sent his family away when he apparently didn’t feel that he could be a husband, dad, and the leader of Israel all at the same time. Sometimes as parents we allow our responsibilities at work, or even at church, to distract us from what must be our primary objective; to raise our children to know and love the Lord. The modern church has allowed parents to become lazy in this way by hiring paid professionals to be the primary spiritual provider for kids.

We’ve enabled parents to hand off their kids to a Sunday School teacher, or a youth or children’s minister and we have created the expectation that the church will take care of their Spiritual provision.

But mom and dad, no matter what mistakes the church has made in this regard, God’s expectation is clear.

You have been given the mandate by God to lead your kids to Spiritual maturity.

Deuteronomy 6:4-9 - 4 “Listen, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD alone. 5 And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your strength. 6 And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. 7 Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. 8 Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. 9 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Matt 28:19-20 - Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Eph 6:4 - Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.

Lesson 2: Celebrate God and His teaching with fellow believers (Ex.18:10-12)
The first thing Jethro led Moses and the leaders of Israel to do was to celebrate how God rescued them from the oppression of slavery in Egypt. What a celebration this must have been. When I consider that Jesus Christ has freed me from my oppression of slavery from my sin, I have the same response.

I want to celebrate! Praise God, I don’t have to die in my sin!
I can live with God, I can co-exist with Him because of what Jesus did for me.
Jethro proclaimed that because of the testimony of the Israelite nation that “I know that God is greater than any other gods”

Hebrews 10:23-25 - Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. 24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

Colossians 3:16 - Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.

1 Thess 5:11 - 11 So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.

Titus 2:2-4 -Teach the older men to exercise self-control, to be worthy of respect, and to live wisely. They must have sound faith and be filled with love and patience. Similarly, teach the older women to live in a way that honors God. They must not slander others or be heavy drinkers; Instead, they should teach others what is good. 4 These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children,
ACTION STEP:

Jethro was preaching to the people. We need to listen to this advice today? We must find leaders to listen to and adjust our actions.

The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is greater than anything else in your life?

Start building each other up to learn more, to serve more, to teach more?

Find someone who is doing what you want to do and then learn from them. Put what you learn into action.

If you have been processed then, be a Jethro to other Moses'.

Philippians 4:9
"Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you."

What we learn from the story of Jethro and Moses - "The Learning Curve"
Jethro is Moses’ father-in-law. And he makes a visit to Moses with the intent of giving his son-in-law some advice. Now, I don’t know about you, but, sometimes I have difficulty receiving advice from my in-laws. I love them dearly, but, then I have a “when I want your opinion, I’ll give it to you” attitude; not just with in-laws but with advice in general. Do you relate at all to this? I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who sometimes struggles with listening to advice. After the Israelites crossed the Red Sea, and they were finally free from the oppression of Egypt, Moses sent his wife and sons to her father’s house. I believe there are a couple of reasons for this:
1.  I wonder if Moses had a lot on his mind leading the people of Israel through the desert to Mount Sinai where they would receive further instruction from God, and felt best if his wife and kids were not around.
2.  And I’m positive that life on the trail was very hard. If Moses and a couple of his buddies with backpacks were to hike the distance from the Red Sea to the region of Mount Sinai, it would take them about 3 days. It took the nation of Israel 2 months. I’m sure Moses figured that life would be better for his wife and kids if they stayed with Jethro.
This all makes sense to me, but Jethro understood something better. He understood that Moses’ first responsibility was not to the nation of Israel but to his own wife and kids. He also understood that Moses was going to burn out as a leader if he didn’t make significant changes to the way he led the people. Jethro’s advice is just as relevant for us today as it was for Moses. And to Moses’ credit, he respected his father-in-law, he listened, and he took action on the advice he was given.

ACTION STEP:  Read Exodus chapter 18. Are you willing to learn something everyday even if it comes through people you really don't want to listen to? What about if you don't agree or don't want to listen to? I am sure you have heard, "Truth hurts." Well, sometimes it does hurt. However, wise decisions are made with much wise council.

Today is a new day. Be open to new information and perhaps even some new instruction. If you want to do something bigger than your doing right now, well you will have to be humble and become a learner at a new level. Just do it! You will not be sorry. At ever level we are a novice until we learn what is needful at that level. Promotion includes a process.

I believe in you and you need to believe in yourself.

 Proverbs 3:5
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.”
Picture
I was challenged over a year ago to read ten books on the subject of abandonment. This was challenging to say the least. However, once I began reading the first book it would lead me to another book on the subject and then another. I started with reading and researching abandonment, and that led me to childhood emotional neglect, which led me to secondary post traumatic stress disorders and then that led me to complex ot traumatic stress disorder. Needless to say, I began to be an expert of the subject. The more I learned the more I wanted to learn. The knowledge I was acquiring was helping me to heal and become who God created me to be. With my new found freedom I was able to help others more. It was empowering to feel in control of my emotions and to be present in the circumstances that once overwhelmed me and caused me to disassociate.

We are stronger than we can imagine. We can learn new coping techniques. We can only help others to the extent that we have been helped ourselves. We are responsible for what God has entrusted to us. People are perishing for a lack of knowledge. God is all knowing. When we know God, we can be downloaded with the knowledge of God like the matrix. We can be reprogrammed. Our part is to get into the Word of God and start renewing our minds daily. But, once we are rewired--reprogramed then we need to take that information and give it to others.

Whatever we came through, we can to take others through. Sometimes in order to show the way, we have to make the way. We have to go first. Sifting through books, articles, podcasts, YouTubes and anything else I could get my hands on changed me first. The pieces of my life started coming together. Everything I'd learned pastoring over 30 years started becoming more clear.  Every story a client shared, or a church member cried through, was coming into clarity like each piece to a puzzle shows the bigger picture. God is so good. His goal is multiplication not merely addition.

I am thrilled to announce my book is written. I am in the process of citing all my resources and hearing back from my coach about what my next step is. I will keep you posted. Momentum

4/19/2022

“Keep moving ahead because action creates momentum, which in turn creates unanticipated opportunities.”
– Nick Vujicic

Picture
“Whatever beginning goals you set for yourself, following through on them will build momentum and a sense of achievement and those small success will point the way to bigger ones”
― Pamela Glass Kelly, From Inspiration to Publication: How to Succeed as a Children's Writer: Advice from 15 Award Winning Writers
Success and achievement are so much easier to reach when you have momentum.

Unlike motivation, momentum is an action, and can be kept regardless of how we feel.

With momentum, progress comes much more readily. However, without it, our progress and the likelihood of achieving our goals quickly fades.

1. Momentum is not merely the motion!

That tells me we can move and wiggle and have all kinds of motion and not have any momentum, huh? We can! And you know where we see that the most? When a church is in conflict. When spouses are so busy blaming one another they can’t see the good in each other. When employees are so busy complaining about their bosses, they can’t see the great job they have when so many are out of work.
Momentum is not merely the motion it is power.

Momentum
2. Is the Power residing in a moving object. Wow!! Notice the capital “P” on POWER!! We’re the moving object, and it is the POWER residing in US, that gives us momentum!!

It is the power residing in us AS WE MOVE, that gives us momentum. It is THE POWER - the one and only, living, active, all-knowing, always present, all mighty God RESIDING in US when we’re moving!

If we’re not moving, we’re dead. But the movement is DEFINED by the power residing in us!!

3. Captured by today’s mathematical definitions.
Captured by our FAITH!!!

Without faith, it is impossible to please God! We capture the momentum when we are God-focused.

So the momentum that I am  is experiencing right now then, is:
THE POWER OF ALMIGHTY GOD RESIDING IN ME AS I MOVE FORWARD IN FAITH!!

The good news is this. It can move in you too. The same Holy Spirit that moves me wants to move you to action.

ACTION STEP:  “Momentum demands movement.” – Anonymous

Get moving! Don't know what direction? Get some help. Pray. Ask your pastor. Get a coach. Get a mentor. You can do this!

I believe in you and you need to believe in yourself.

The journey of writing my book.

Habakkuk 2:2 NIV
"Then the LORD replied: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it."

Picture
I finished my book on Abandonment. My projected date of release is September 2022. When I finish something I always call a friend or two and share my victory. This was a particularly exciting victory as it was an overwhelming task. One friend said, "It's very cathartic." What a great word for what I was feeling. Then, she went on to say, "I believe everyone that writes heals at a completely different level." I couldn't agree more.

Craig Groeschel says, "Fall in love with the journey."
It is also a book title by Zita Fontaine. Still another said and I quote, "In our obsessive wish to arrive, we often forget the most important thing, which is the journey." -- Paulo Coelho

This is what happened to me. I fell in love with the journey. I fell in love with the process. I realized once again how much I love to write. I realized how healing it was to let my emotions flow through the ink and onto the pages. As I saw the story come back to life, so did the memories, the emotions, the feelings that I had severed myself from long, long ago. Our lives are an endless trip where we are navigating from one place to another following new paths, destinations and learning as we go.

Once, we return from the trip we often dream about where we plan to go next. Personally, I dislike unpacking and putting everything back where it belongs. Truth be told I don't enjoy packing either. I have this exhale of relief when I pull out of my driveway and make the decision, it is what it is. If I forget something I will go find me a Walmart or a Target. When I write, it's as though all the packing is done. I just take the pen and paper and leave. I don't need anything else. When I finish a book, everything is already put away. Nothing to unpack. It is done.

I am considering doing a writing workshop. I could collaborate with a few of my fellow authors and share the process. Whose in? I am not ready to quit traveling. A journey can be more beautiful if you take some others with you.

ACTION STEP:  What would you write about? Have you ever wanted to write a book? Would you like to know how? Let's talk. Go to www.renaperozich.com and schedule a session with me. Don't know what to write about? I can help with that too. Talk to you soon.

Good Friday issues don't have to last forever.

1 Corinthians 1:18
"For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God."
Picture
John Fitzgerald Kennedy
1917-1963

The first date records when he entered into time. The 2nd date marks his exit. The children he raised, the education he attained, the goals he reached, and the people he affected are all encapsulated by one hyphen between to dates.
All the things he overcame, all the men and women he motivated all the laughter, all the tears, all he accomplished is now seen as a simple little slash between two dates.

When they add the second date next to your name, what will the dash in between represent.

You see when they put that date there, the cars and the office and the job title and the number of beers you are able to get through before falling over, or the number of women you can get through in one night will mean nothing.

That dash between the dates will mean something only if you add another line to it. That lines name is Jesus.

Good Friday will never be as harsh for us as it was the disciples. We know he was resurrected – they did not.

But I know that right now some of you are going through Good Friday Issues.

Good Friday Issues? Betrayal, false accusations, standing alone when he should have been surrounded by friends, beating, torture, pain, having to keep your mouth shout when your more than able to defend yourself, the sky grows dark, despair, Shame, Anguish, Guilt, hurt, regret, a feeling of uselessness. And believe you me I know if we put our minds to it, we could make that a lengthy Good Friday list.

There is no such thing as a testimony without a test.

There is no such thing a resurrection without a death.

There is no such thing as an Easter without a Good Friday.

ACTION STEP:  Today realize that by tomorrow everything can change. Refuse to be nailed to your circumstances. Get up, get up, get up...it's in your DNA.

Have a great weekend. Celebrate your freedom from sin, death, hell and the grave! Find a church to attend and gather with other like minded believers and praise God for all He has done. Enjoy family and/or friends. Be thankful.

I believe in you and you need to believe in yourself.

How do successful people do it?

Proverbs 16:3
"Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established."
Picture
Ever feel like your drifting and life is passing you by? Your waking up, working, and doing all the normal things people do, and then going to bed -- yet feel as though something is missing? Yeah. I get it. Once you experience a traumatic event or several such as in my case, you are almost afraid to live. Afraid something else will happen that sets you back again or trips you up, only to find yourself back to existing rather than living. I get it.

So, how did I come back to life? How did I go from the walking dead to making a life and getting ahead? One day at a time. Don't stop reading. It doesn't take that many days! God restores the years the canker worm and swarming locust has devoured. We can call it a "Supernatural Comeback." He (God) did it for me and He can do it for you. He is no respecter of persons. In fact He made the comeback Himself. He called it a Resurrection.

I needed help. I couldn't find my way out of doing to start being. We are called human beings not human doings. But, doing is all I knew. Doing dulled the pain of being. Being can become so painful. Why? Beings feel. Beings feel deeply. What I felt I didn't want to feel so I buried it in my doing. Then, I got a coach.

My coach touch places in my soul, that I did not know -- could feel that painful. Fact of the matter is -- I didn't even know they were there. That's how deep they were buried. Once the earth moving experience was over, I could see it. I could see what others had seen all along, but wasn't visible to me. I had a blindspot that was keeping me in the numbers of the walking dead.

If that's you? Maybe you need a coach too? Go to my website www.renaperozich.com and schedule an appointment. Maybe we can become earth movers together? And maybe, just maybe we can have a resurrection of the real you! Or, who knows? Maybe a new and better version of you?

ACTION STEP:  Find what you are good at. Ask several friends or family members to make you a list of just 25 things they believe you do well. Yes, I know this will not be easy to reach out with a Big Ask.

Then, circle the ones that you love doing.

Now move those to a new list. Pray over that list. Then, circle what you believe God has or is calling you to do.

Next step find 10 books on the subject and start reading. Keep a journal beside you as you read. Write in that journal what speaks to you. Put that quote you can't get out of your head into the journal.

Give yourself one year. Then let me know how life is going.

I believe in you and you need to believe in yourself.
