Mentors matter. As we put on a sweater, and grab our books, and head out the door remember, "mentors matter". It matters who we hang out with. It matters who we choose as friends. It matters where we go, and the activities in which we participate. So who are you pressing in to? What do you want out of the new relationships that Fall affords us?
In the Bible we find many examples of mentors. They may not be called that, but they are in there. Jonathan and David, Paul and Timothy, Elijah and Elisha, Elizabeth and Mary, are all examples of a mentoring relationship.
| When looking for a mentor look for someone that is doing what you want to do. Look for someone who doesn't have any time. People that are busy doing what they love, and are mentoring others to do the same, are some of the busiest people I know. They don't stay in bed all day, and dream about what they want to do, they are doing it! |  A mentor can be many things, so know what you are looking for! |
 The devil has a plan to sabotage your life. When the devil wants to destroy you, he will bring a person into your life. However, the Bible tells us that, "...no weapon formed against us will prosper." Sometimes weapons come in the form of people. A true mentor will ask how you are doing, because they care. If a person constantly takes from you and never sows into you--walk away...walk away. God will heal you and lead you in a new direction where you will find a true mentor. | So today,as you go about your life, keep your eyes wide open, and ask God why is this person in my life? I use to say, "People come in to our lives for a season or a reason." We have got to know the "why?" If God wants you to be the mentor then ask Him what you can do to make the time you have with the other person, be a time of value. Ask lots of questions, and listen for the answers they are not telling you. Be available if only for a few minutes here and there. If you can resource the other person with the same books, CD's and DVD's, that you resourced yourself, so that you could be where you are today, do it wisely. Do not over feed them. Test them to see if they will do a small assignment and value your time. Do they take notes in your presence? Do they ask questions? Do you see a change in their behavior? Do they respect you or constantly interrupt? We only have so much time in a day...we must use it wisely, and teach others to do the same. Be what you are looking for. |
