Watchman Nee-the man and the message.

2/28/2020

Watchman Nee is far too large a subject for me to cover in a week, but I pray I have introduced you and now the two of you are friends. I pray you will get to know Him better and in doing so, you will get to know yourself and Christ in a greater way.

THE SPIRITUAL MAN - Watchman Nee

Of these three elements the spirit is the noblest for it joins with God.
The body is the lowest for it contacts with matter. The soul lying between them joins the two together and also takes their character to be its own.

The soul makes it possible for the spirit and the body to communicate and to cooperate. The work of the soul is to keep these two in their proper order so that they may not lose their right relationship ---namely, that the lowest, the body, may be subjected to the spirit, and that the highest, the spirit, may govern the body through the soul. Man's prime factor is definitely the soul. It looks to the spirit to give what the latter has received from the Holy Spirit in order that the soul, after it has been perfected, may transmit what it has obtained to the body; then the body too may share in the perfection of the Holy Spirit and so become a spiritual body.

The spirit is the noblest part of man and occupies the innermost area of his being. The body is the lowest and takes the outermost place. Between these two dwells the soul, serving as their medium. The body is the outer shelter of the soul, while the soul is the outer sheath of the spirit. The spirit transmits its thought to the soul and the soul exercises the body to obey the spirit's order. This is the meaning of the soul as the medium. Before the fall of man the spirit controlled the whole being through the soul.

For more than seventy years, The Spiritual Man, Watchman Nee's classic on spiritual growth, has helped believers advance in their pursuit of gaining Christ by showing them the way to let the Lord fully gain them. According to Nee, "The most frustrating experience of believers today is that in seeking for progress in the spiritual path, they do not find the proper way. As a result, they grope in darkness, being at times high or low, lingering around the crossroads year in and year out, and having no one to consult for direction ... For this reason, the book emphasizes clear guidance on the proper path."Volume 1 addresses the human spirit, the flesh, and the soul. Volume 2 addresses the Holy Spirit, the analysis of the Spirit, walking according to the Spirit, and the analysis of the soul (the emotion). Volume 3 continues the analysis of the soul (the mind and the will) and also addresses the body. 3 volumes.

ACTION STEP: Here is a link to read some of the books and writings by Watchman Nee: https://biblesforamerica.org/books/

I pray this week has been a blessing to you. I download his book Sit Walk and Stand and I continue to go back to it over and over and always find some new truth I missed before. If you are trying and not receiving anything from his writing put them away and come back to them later. I have had to do this many times and when I go back the truth just leaps into my spirit. I obviously wasn't ready for it sooner--and that's okay.

What we can learn from the writings of Watchman Nee

2/27/2020

It always amazes me that everything that is good is not God. In my younger years in Christ I could not understand why God would make something good and yet it be not be God, or good for me. This began in Genesis. Just reading the first book of the Bible was confusing. I mean as a parent why would I leave something lay around in front of my kids that look like good food and tell them not to eat it? Why not put it out of the child's reach? Why not put a legion of angels around the tree to keep the kids away from it? I was of the mind set if it feels good do it, if it taste good eat it, I was blind but now I see. God wanted us to chose to obey Him and that is to love Him.
Picture
Then I learned that I was a three part being. I learned that I am a spirit. I live in a body and I possess a soul. This was a life changing revelation that helped me to understand why I did the things I did. Why did I desire right and still do wrong? God began to reveal truth to me through the word of God as preached through my pastor.  I would have never gotten it had I not had a teacher. I needed a pastor. I needed a church family. I still do. We all need these in our life if we are to learn how to live a successful, free and joyful life while on this earth.
Picture
This might be all new to you. If it is, trust me but also look it up for yourselves in the writings of Watchman Nee and in the word of God. If you have questions then find someone a little further along in Christ than you are and ask them to help you. In fact you may ask me questions here on this Blog and I will be happy to find you the answers. I am constantly learning myself. The Bible tells us to study the scriptures.
Picture
ACTION STEP: Get yourself some good books on whatever subject that you are struggling in or have questions. Always make sure the authors that you are reading from agree with the Bible. There are many sources but not all will lead you to everlasting life. Many will be deceived in the last days, but we don't have to be one of them. We can show ourselves approved, rightly dividing the word of God, which is truth. Then, once we know the truth we can share that truth with others. This is God's will for us.

Another look at Watchman Nee and his sayings.

I hope you are enjoying being introduced to Watchman Nee or reintroduced to his writings. Looking back to the writings of those that have gone on before us can help us to see the reality of what Christ has done in a different light.

Just as we may not remember all we ate last week we are still drawing strength from it, I pray you will draw strength from these quotes.

Picture
  • Take this as the secret of Christ’s life in you: His Spirit dwells in your innermost spirit. Meditate on it, believe in it, and remember it until this glorious truth produces within you a holy fear and wonderment that the Holy Spirit indeed abides in you.

  • Human nerves are rather sensitive and are easily stirred by outside stimuli. Words, manners, environments, and feelings greatly affect us. Our mind engages in so many thoughts, plans, and imaginations that it is a world of confusion. If we are favorably inclined to yield to the Lord, to take up His yoke, and to follow Him, our soul shall not be aroused inordinately.

  • Faith looks not at what happens to him but at Him Whom he believes.

  • God gives His Own Self totally to us that we may offer ourselves completely to Him.

  • Naturally there are many reasons for not possessing greater faith, but the gravest of these is probably an evil conscience. A good conscience is inseparable from a great faith.

  • We should not open our mouths too hastily upon approaching God. On the contrary, we first must ask God to show us what and how to pray before we make our request known to Him. Have we not consumed a great deal of time in the past asking for what we wanted? Why not now ask for what God wants?

  • When one tries to increase his knowledge by doing mental gymnastics over books without waiting upon God and looking to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, his soul is plainly in full swing. This will deplete his spiritual life. Because the fall of man was occasioned by seeking knowledge, God uses the foolishness of the cross to “destroy the wisdom of the wise.

  • How true it is that without guidance of the Holy Spirit intellect not only is undependable, but also extremely dangerous, because it often confuses the issue of right and wrong.

  • Our old history ends with the Cross; our new history begins with the resurrection.

  • “The Spirit is both a builder and a dweller. He cannot dwell where he has not built; He builds to dwell and dwells in only what he has built.”

  • Outside of Christ, I am only a sinner, but in Christ, I am saved. Outside of Christ, I am empty; in Christ, I am full. Outside of Christ, I am weak; in Christ, I am strong. Outside of Christ, I cannot; in Christ, I am more than able. Outside of Christ, I have been defeated; in Christ, I am already victorious. How meaningful are the words, “in Christ.”

  • “Lord, I am willing to break MY heart that I might satisfy THY heart.”

  • It does not matter what your personal deficiency, or whether it be a hundred and one different things, God has always one sufficient answer, His Son Jesus Christ, and he is the answer to every need.

  • God is not seeking a display of my Christ-likeness , but a manifestation of His Christ.

  • Negligence in prayer withers the inner man. Nothing can be a substitute for it, not even Christian work. Many are so preoccupied with work that they allow little time for prayer…Prayer enables us first inwardly to overcome the enemy and then outwardly to deal with him.

  • The Blood deals with what we have done, whereas the Cross deals with what we are. The Blood disposes of our sins, while the Cross strikes at the root of our capacity for sin.

  • I want nothing for myself; I want everything for the Lord.

  • Good is not always God’s will, but God’s will is always good.

  • All knowledge is the outgrowth of obedience; everything else is just information.

  • Today, even amongst Christians, there can be found much of that spirit that wants to give as little as possible to the Lord, and yet to get as much as possible from Him. The prevailing thought today is of being used, as though that were the one thing that mattered. That my little rubber band should be stretched to the very limit seems all important. But this is not the Lord’s mind. The Lord wants us to be used, yes; but what He is after is that we pour all we have, ourselves, to Him, and if that be all, that is enough.

  • Living in the Spirit means that I trust the Holy Spirit to do in me what I cannot do myself. This is completely different from the life I would naturally live myself. Each time I am faced with a new demand from the Lord, I look to Him to do in me what He requires of me. It is not a case of trying but of trusting; not of struggling but of resting in him.

  • Man’s thought is always of the punishment that will come to him if he sins, but God’s thought is always of the glory man will miss if he sins. The result of sin is that we forfeit God’s glory: the result of redemption is that we are qualified again for glory. God’s purpose in redemption is glory, glory, glory.

  • The right attitude is this: that I have my own will yet I will the will of God.

  • Death is our emancipation.

  • “If we throw ourselves open to God, He will reveal. The trouble comes when we have closed areas, locked and barred places in our hearts, where we think, with pride, that we are right.”
Picture
ACTION STEP: Sometimes it helps for us to look back so we can see ahead. Those that paid the price for revelation paid greatly that we might learn. As I read and share these writings with you I pray they strengthen you from the inside out.

Sit Walk Stand-A review of the book by Watchman Nee

Picture
This is one of the best books I have ever read. It is simple yet profound. His examples are so visual that as he speaks you can see. It is Ephesians preached as I have never heard preached before. This book truly opened my eyes to my position in Christ. It serves as a reminder that it's not what we can do, but what Christ has done.
Picture
Watchman Nee (1903–1972) was a noted Chinese Bible teacher and Christian leader. He began his preaching ministry while still a university student. From 1923 to 1950 Nee founded 200 churches. Starting as small groups meeting in rented houses, these self supporting congregations became strong spiritually and grew rapidly, continuing to develop after China’s Cultural Revolution. Nee was arrested in 1952 and found guilty of false charges; he was imprisoned until his death in 1972.
Picture
ACTION STEP: Check out this timeless treasure. I believe this is a book that all Christians need to read over and over again. This is a life changing message. This is a truth that I believe too few in our churches understand, it is a truth lost in the search of something new. I challenge you to read this book and allow it to read you.

Divine Love Series #2 of 5-The Subjects of Love

2/24/2020

Seems like I heard these before. I am sure you have noticed when your a politician and you campaign--your in so many different states you don't know what state you're in! Well, I think it's the same when you are winning souls not votes. I have to pause when I wake up and think about where I am. I did three Mission Trips in a row. In less than a year I have been to Ghana three times, Israel, Armenia, Fort Bend, Indiana, Denver Colorado, Philadelphia, and literally half-way around the world to Palau, just to name a few. So, the reason for the ooops. Hope you're enjoying them anyway. Just laugh with me. I appreciate the grace.

We continue this week my series on Divine Love. We established God is Love. He is the Source of love. Today, we see that we are the Subjects of His love from the five points I want to cover in this series:
  • Source
  • Subject
  • Substance
  • Substitution
  • Story
The world is so bad that 1 John 2:15 commands, “Do not love the world or the things in the world.” Yet the same writer who says the world is so bad that followers of Jesus must not love it, says although the world is so bad, the Father of Jesus Christ loves the world. This statement is remarkable not only in terms of how big the world is, but also how bad the world.
Picture
Think about that in personal terms. There are people who love and respect you; but if they knew certain things about you, they would change their minds about you.

God knows everything about you there is to know, yet God loves you anyway. This is the true basis for self-esteem. God loves you.

Martin Luther said it well: "God does not love us because we are valuable; we are valuable because God loves us."
Picture
God loves the world. Yet you still will misunderstand the love of God if you don’t know how God communicates His love. The text bears me up. The verse does not simply say God loved the world. It says, “God so loved the world.” That little word so (houto) means “in this manner.” Our English translations obscure this term somewhat: “God loved the world so much,” but it literally speaks of how God loved us, not how much God loves us. The message of the text is this: “In this manner God loved the world” or “This is how God loved the world.”

John 3:16 is about how God says, “I love you.” What’s the answer? Here it is: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son.” John 3:16 does not teach that God loves us so much that He would do anything for us. Rather, it teaches us that God loved us by doing something specific for us: He gave! You cannot know the love of God without embracing it in terms of the gift He gave to communicate His love for us. That gift was His only begotten Son. There is no greater love. However, many never receive the gift. The gift is what he sent to get us out of this world alive.
Picture
ACTION STEP:  Think about how much God loves you specifically today. Then, ask Him what He would have you to do for those He loves? Focus on the creator not what He has created but who He has created. Who needs to know what you know? It is the goodness of God that leads a man to repentance. Show the goodness of God to someone who needs to know what He did for them and how He showed that love. Look for ways and opportunities to love. Remember love is only love if there is an action.

Divine Source of Love #1 0f 5 continued.

2/21/2020

Today, we continue learning the Source of God's love. Then, next week we will look at the other 4 points I want to make:

  • Source
  • Subject
  • Substance
  • Substitution
  • Story
John 3:16 declares God is a lover.
This goes against the prevailing notions of God. Many people think God is angry. We correctly view God as a God of wrath, but we misinterpret that wrath in terms of our humanness rather than His holiness. Thus, we view God as a tyrant, a cosmic killjoy, an angry parent sitting in His heavenly living room with His divine belt in hand waiting for the disobedient sinner to come through the door. Others view God as indifferent. They think God does not and cannot care about the world or anyone in it.

Others view God as temperamental. They view God’s love esoterically and spend their lives trying to earn it. This produces a legalism, which results in either despondency or pride, but never reveals the true love of God. John 3:16 stands against all these misinterpretations of God’s attitude toward us and declares God loves us. First John 4:8 says, “God is love.” God personifies love. If fact, if it has to do with God, it has to do with love.

Mercy is God’s forgiving love.
Grace is God’s undeserved love.
Peace is God’s comforting love.
The will of God is, God’s unerring love.
Providence is God’s caring love.
The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ is God’s proven love.
Sanctification is God’s nurturing love.
Heaven is God’s rewarding love.
Eternity is God’s unending love.
Picture
The Old Testament makes it clear God loves Israel. It makes this point so regularly and dramatically that you can misread it to say God loves only Israel. That’s how Israel itself read the Old Testament. So, this statement recorded in John 3:16 absolutely must have blown Nicodemus away. It claims God does not love just certain groups, races or nations. God loves everybody. God doesn’t exclusively love Christians. God loves the world. What a truth!

Romans 5:7-8 says: “For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—but God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” God loves the world.

Picture
ACTION STEPS: Tomorrow we will discuss the unworthy Subjects of God's love. For today, think about all the ways God loves you. Really, think about not just the stuff, your breath, your bed, but you. How does God love you. Then, be grateful He is love, because WHO He is makes Him able to DO what He does....mainly love us.

Love Series #1 of 5 "The Divine Source of the Love"

John 3:16 KJV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Picture
Loving our family means we will live Jesus out in front of them.
We are all imperfect people loved by a perfect God.
God is our model, our source and our help.

Picture
I have four points under loving our families: MESS (How not to make a mess out of our family).

  • We model vibrant relationships with Christ to our family.
  • We encourage all our family members to love Christ.
  • We seek the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of family members.
  • We serve in church life together.
Picture
The window of life we choose to look through determines our joy or lack thereof because each window has a specific view.

A young couple rented a vacation cottage for a week. One afternoon the husband looked out a window at the swimming pool and exclaimed, "Let's change our clothes and go get some exercise!" His wife, who was washing the dishes in the kitchen and looking out the window watching some people play tennis, quickly agreed. While she dressed for a tennis match, he put on his swimming trunks. The window a person chooses to look at the world through often determines their perception of reality.

The question I have for you today is, how do you view God? Is He your heavenly Father who loves you as His own child, having your best in mind?

Or do you see Him as a judge waiting to pronounce His judgement on your every mis-step?

Our perception of Him will put a desire in us to draw closer to Him or be like Adam and Eve and hide from Him.

Never allow the pain or struggles of the past to set your vision for how you see God. Take His word and allow His loving words to permeate your vision of Him.
Picture
ACTION STEP: How much harsher are we with our spouses than we would be with anyone else? How short-fused do we get with our kids or are parents because we know we can get away with it?

How loving is your home, really? If I brought your spouse or your kids up here, gave them a truth serum, and asked them to tell us exactly how they feel about the love you show them, how would they respond?

I want to suggest something to you. If we fail to love our family, then we fail to love anyone else.

This week love and respect family members as you would the people you work with or attend church with. Ask them questions about what you can do to make their day better or help them out? You may very well be surprised at their reaction and their answers. Be ready to do what they need and want. Remember love is sacrificial. If you don't think you have what it takes, you are probably right--but God does.

I hope you have enjoyed this series. Drop me a line and let me know you care!

"Declaring Love" with part #5 of 5~"The Eternal Benefits of the Gift-Story"

2/19/2020

I hope you have been journeying along with us in my series on "Declaring Love."

Today, concludes this series from John 3:16.
The closing portion of John 3:16 states the eternal benefits of God’s gift to us: “that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

The benefits of God’s gift are only received through faith.

Jesus makes this point with His references to Numbers 21. The story of Moses, the children of Israel and the fiery serpent is our story.

It is a story of sin as the children of Israel rebelled against God.

It is a story of judgment as the Lord sent fiery serpents into the camp.

It is a story of grace as God provided an undeserved way of salvation, but it is also a story of faith as those who obeyed the word and looked to the uplifted serpent were saved.
Picture
Do you see yourself in that story?

Have you disobeyed and displeased God?

God’s judgment already has bitten you.

You eventually, inevitably will die; but God in Christ has provided an undeserved plan of salvation.

As the Israelites looked to the serpent, we must look to Jesus Christ if we are going to be saved.

God’s gift is for the whole world, but the only people who will enjoy the benefits of this great love gift are those who believe in Jesus Christ.

You cannot know God’s love if you do not believe in His Son, Jesus Christ; and I do not mean mere intellectual assent.

Saving faith involves knowledge of the Word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ, agreement with what the Word of God says, and trust that Jesus is who Scripture says He is and that He accomplished what Scripture says He did.

We must trust in Jesus. If we do not, we will perish. We will spend eternity under the holy wrath of God in hell.
Picture
Do you perish because you do not believe? No.

John 3:18 says, “Whoever believers in Him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because He has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.”

Did you get that?

Those who do not believe are condemned already.

In Numbers 21, those who did not look to the serpent did not die because they did not look to the serpent. They were dying already!

It was only by looking to the serpent that they could live. You only can be saved through faith in Jesus Christ. If you believe in Him, you will have eternal life.

Eternal life begins the moment you put your trust in Jesus Christ for salvation. It introduces you to a new quality of life. Second Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” If you are a believer, you have eternal life right now.

Yet, at the same time eternal life is yet to come. Your present life on earth is getting you ready for your eternal life in heaven. It’s like a baby in the mother’s womb. It has eyes, but sees nothing. It has ears, but only hears muffled sounds and the mother’s heartbeat. It has legs, but goes nowhere apart from the body carrying it. Yet it has these things because it is getting ready to go to the brand new world. In this life, we go through dangers, toils and snares; but they are just to get us ready to go to a brand new world. There, the wicked shall cease from troubling. The weary shall be at rest.

We were all dead but we can all be born again to live forever, the choice is ours. The truth is:

Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong. They are weak, but He is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me. Yes, Jesus loves me.
The Bible tells me so.

The fact is-you and I have to decide to be born again no one makes us.
Picture
ACTION STEP: All through our Series, God has been declaring His grace towards us. The Gift of Eternal Life is for all who will accept Christ as their Savior. He stands with open arms to all of us. I believe He is specifically calling home Prodigals. Those that have walked away, He is watching down the road of life waiting. Come home. Come home. This is the greatest story every told.

Declaring Love~#4 of 5 "The Redeeming Purpose of the Gift-Substitution"

2/18/2020

John 3:16
is the gospel in a nutshell, but you cannot correctly interpret it outside of its proper context.

People are similar to words: They are known by the company they keep.

This applies to John 3:16, as well. In order to understand it, you must consider its context.

The text itself demands you look at its context.

It says, “For God so loved…” The preposition "for" introduces a purpose clause. It introduces a clause that is going to tell you the reason for something.
Picture
John 3 records a late-night conversation with a civic-religious leader named Nicodemus. Nicodemus wanted to talk religion, but Jesus confronted him with a spiritual imperative: “You must be born again.” Nicodemus responded by asking, “How can these things be?” So, Jesus explained. John 3:14-15 says, “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him may have eternal life.”

This is a reference to Numbers 21:4-9. As the children of Israel passed through the wilderness, they became impatient and complained against the Lord and Moses. The Lord sent fiery snakes into the camp that bit many people. Many died, but the children of Israel repented and asked Moses to pray for them. The Lord instructed Moses to make a fiery serpent, put it on a pole, and lift it up before the people. Moses obeyed and made a bronze serpent, put it on a pole and lifted it up before the people. Anyone who looked to the serpent was healed. This is Jesus’ explanation of what it means to be born again: “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up.”
Picture
There are some who take this to mean the nature of Jesus changed on the cross from divine to demonic, but that is not the point at all. The Bible is not saying Jesus took on the nature of the serpent on the cross. Rather, there are two points of comparison that are being made.

First, Moses made a bronzed serpent. That is, it had gone through the fire. Likewise, Jesus went through the fire and was proven to be blameless before God. In Revelation 1:15, John saw the glorified and exalted Christ with feet as “burnished bronze.” This does not mean Jesus was a black man. It means He was a perfect man. He had gone through the fire and was blameless before God.

The other comparison—the main point—is that as was the serpent, Jesus was lifted up. John 3:14-15 says, “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him may have eternal life.” Then John 3:16 adds: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

God demonstrated His love for us by sending His only begotten Son into the world. The reason He gave His Son is so He would be lifted up on the cross for our sins.

So, you cannot know the love of God without knowing Jesus is God’s only begotten Son.

You also cannot know the love of God without knowing Jesus came to die on the cross for your sins.
Picture
One day, the Swiss theologian Karl Barth was asked what he thought was the most important word in the New Testament. He answered, huper. Huper is a preposition meaning “on behalf of” or “in place of.” So when Barth called huper the most important word, he meant the most important of all truths is that we are significant because Jesus took our place on the cross that we may be saved. Jesus did not come to make you rich, wealthy or happy. He came to be lifted up on the cross so your sins can be forgiven.

There are three things you need to know about God. First, God is holy. This is the defining attribute of God. It means God is not like us. God is set apart, completely unique, totally different, morally excellent and without any speck of darkness whatsoever.

Likewise, God is just. That is, God judges on the basis of a righteous standard. God judges by the standard of His own holy character.

These first two attributes of God are big trouble to us.

God is holy. We are not.

One day, you will have to answer to God for how you have lived your life.
There is nothing about you that you can commend to God in order to merit salvation. All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Here is the good news: God is love. “For God so loved the world, He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Imagine you are a criminal. You have lived your life breaking the law. It finally has caught up with you. You have been arrested, charged, tried, convicted and sentenced. Your penalty is death, which is a just punishment for the crimes you have committed. So, there you sit on death row, waiting for your day of execution. You play games to keep your mind occupied, but nothing can hide the reality you face. You feel it every time you hear footsteps outside your cell. However, one day, the footsteps stop outside your door. It swings open, and in walks the judge who sentenced you to death. He has come personally to let you know you are being released. You don’t understand, but you don’t argue. You get your stuff and get out of there. While they are leading you out, you notice them leading someone else in. You ask who he is. The judge explains, “Well, when I tried your case, my heart went out to you. I know justice has to be served, but I wanted to help you. When I told that man about your situation, he shared my concern and volunteered to take your place. So, here he is; but know he is not here because he has done anything wrong. As a matter of fact, he is the best person I have ever met; and I should know because he’s my son.
Picture
ACTION STEP: Whatever you have done allow me to remind you, there was a price to pay. Justice had to be done. Jesus took your place. You now, right now, today stand righteous before God if you have accepted the Gift of Jesus Christ as your Savior. The Great Exchange is no longer a mystery to those that are made righteous in Christ. This is good news. Go share the good news with someone who needs to know what you know.

Tomorrow we end our Series "Declaring Love" with part #5 of 5~"

Declaring Love #3 of 5~ "The Infinite Worth of the Gift-Substance."

It is bad manners to give a gift to someone and leave the price tag on it, but this is exactly what God did when He gave us His Son, Jesus Christ.
Picture
Picture
God wanted us to know what it cost Him to purchase our salvation. So he left the price tag on the gift. John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son.” That is, He gave His only begotten Son. This term translates the word monogenes. It means “the one and only.” It is used nine time times in the New Testament. Luke used it three times. Luke 7:12 used the word to tell us the dead boy of the widow of Nain was her only son. Luke 8:42 used the word to tell us Jairus’ dying 12-year-old was his only daughter. Luke 9:38 used the word to tell us the father of a demon-possessed boy pleaded with Jesus for help on the basis that he was his only son. The term is also used in Hebrews 11:17 to tell us Isaac was Abraham’s only begotten son, although Abraham had another son named Ishmael.
The other five times monogenes occurs in the New Testament, John used it in reference to Jesus; John 1:14 says, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth”; John 1:18 says, “No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, He has made Him known”; John 3:18 says, “Whoever believes in Him is condemned already, because He has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.”

First John 4:9 says, “In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him.” John 3:16 says: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”
All human beings are God’s children generally through creation. All Christians are God’s children specifically through regeneration and adoption, but the Lord Jesus Christ is God’s Son uniquely because He is the only begotten Son of the Father.
Colossians 2:9 says, “For in Him the world fullness of deity dwells bodily.” Jesus Christ is the unique One, the One and only, the One of a kind.

In other words, there is nobody like Jesus.
Nobody was born like Jesus.
Nobody lived like Jesus.
Nobody died like Jesus.
Nobody got up like Jesus.
Nobody is coming again like Jesus.

Jesus is God’s only Son. When John 3:16 says God loved us by giving His only begotten Son, it is telling us Jesus Christ is what God sent when He cared enough to send the very best.

Picture
How did God say I love you? He gave His only begotten Son.
He who had glory before the world began, came down from glory…down from the heights of divinity to the depths of humanity.

An uncreated, divine Person, who had eternal pre-existence, took on the form of a created being and became what He was not in eternity—flesh.

He who in eternity rested on the bosom of the Father without a mother, in time rested on the bosom of His mother without an earthly father.

He who in Eden’s garden took from the body of a man a motherless woman, in Bethlehem’s barn took from the body of a woman a fatherless man.

The Ancient of Days became the Infant of Days, a baby as old as His heavenly Father, ages older than His mother, Mary. He who made man, yet was made in the likeness of men.

He who created the angels was made a little lower than the angels.
He who said, “Before Abraham was, I am,” was born 2,000 years after Abraham died.

He who was Abraham’s seed was Abraham’s Savior.

He who was David’s son was David’s Lord.

I know God loves me because I know He gave His only begotten Son—Jesus Christ. Second Corinthians 9:15 says, “Thanks be to God for His inexpressible gift!”

ACTION STEP: You are priceless. You are adopted into the family of God. Adoption is costly, and Jesus paid the price. An adopted child can never be disinherited.  There is nobody like Jesus and there is nobody like you! You are made of the same substance as Jesus. He is the firstborn of many brothers...and you are one of them.
