What is your "I am?"

You matter! You matter to God and you matter to others. You matter to me. After all who would read my Blog if not for you. When something matters we treat it better. When something matters we take care of it. One of the ways we can take care of something is the way we speak to it. Science has proven that even a plant will grow better if we speak lovingly and positively to it. You matter so much more than a plant. So master your mornings by speaking lovingly and politely to yourself.

Here is a list of Confessions with the scriptural references:

• I am a child of God.But to all who have received him--those who believe in his name--he has given the right to become God's children … (John 1:12).
• I am a branch of the true vine, and a conduit of Christ’s life.I am the true vine and my Father is the gardener. I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me--and I in him--bears much fruit, because apart from me you can accomplish nothing (John 15:1, 5).
• I am a friend of Jesus.I no longer call you slaves, because the slave does not understand what his master is doing. But I have called you friends, because I have revealed to you everything I heard from my Father (John 15:15).
• I have been justified and redeemed. But they are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus (Romans 3:24).
• My old self was crucified with Christ, and I am no longer a slave to sin.We know that our old man was crucified with him so that the body of sin would no longer dominate us, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin (Romans 6:6).
• I will not be condemned by God.There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1).
• I have been set free from the law of sin and death. For the law of the life-giving Spirit in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2).
• As a child of God, I am a fellow heir with Christ. And if children, then heirs (namely, heirs of God and also fellow heirs with Christ)--if indeed we suffer with him so we may also be glorified with him (Romans 8:17).
• I have been accepted by Christ.Receive one another, then, just as Christ also received you, to God's glory (Romans 15:7).
• I have been called to be a saint.… To the church of God that is in Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, and called to be saints, with all those in every place who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours (1 Corinthians 1:2). (See also Ephesians 1:1, Philippians 1:1, and Colossians 1:2.)
• In Christ Jesus, I have wisdom, righteousness, sanctification, and redemption. He is the reason you have a relationship with Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption … (1 Corinthians 1:30).
• My body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who dwells in me.Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you (1 Corinthians 6:19)?
• I am joined to the Lord and am one spirit with Him.But the one united with the Lord is one spirit with him (1 Corinthians 6:17).
• God leads me in the triumph and knowledge of Christ. But thanks be to God who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and who makes known through us the fragrance that consists of the knowledge of him in every place (2 Corinthians 2:14).
• The hardening of my mind has been removed in Christ. But their minds were closed. For to this very day, the same veil remains when they hear the old covenant read./netbible2/index.php?header=&book=2co&chapter=3 It has not been removed because only in Christ is it taken away (2 Corinthians 3:14).
• I am a new creature in Christ. So then, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; what is old has passed away--look, what is new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17)!
• I have become the righteousness of God in Christ.God made the one who did not know sin to be sin for us, so that in him we would become the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21).
• I have been made one with all who are in Christ Jesus. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female--for all of you are one in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:28).
• I am no longer a slave, but a child and an heir.So you are no longer a slave but a son, and if you are a son, then you are also an heir through God (Galatians 4:7).
• I have been set free in Christ. For freedom Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be subject again to the yoke of slavery (Galatians 5:1).
• I have been blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places.Blessed is the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms in Christ (Ephesians 1:3).
• I am chosen, holy, and blameless before God.For he chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world that we may be holy and unblemished in his sight in love (Ephesians 1:4).
• I am redeemed and forgiven by the grace of Christ. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace (Ephesians 1:7).
• I have been predestined by God to obtain an inheritance. In Christ we too have been claimed as God's own possession, since we were predestined according to the one purpose of him who accomplishes all things according to the counsel of his will (Ephesians 1:11).
• I have been sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise. And when you heard the word of truth (the gospel of your salvation)--when you believed in Christ--you were marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13).
• Because of God’s mercy and love, I have been made alive with Christ. But God, being rich in mercy, because of his great love with which he loved us, even though we were dead in transgressions, made us alive together with Christ--by grace you are saved (Ephesians 2:4-5)!
• I am seated in the heavenly places with Christ.… And he raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus … (Ephesians 2:6).
• I am God’s workmanship created to produce good works. For we are his workmanship, having been created in Christ Jesus for good works that God prepared beforehand so we may do them (Ephesians 2:10).
• I have been brought near to God by the blood of Christ. But now in Christ Jesus you who used to be far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ (Ephesians 2:13).
• I am a member of Christ’s body and a partaker of His promise.… The Gentiles are fellow heirs, fellow members of the body, and fellow partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 3:6). (See also Ephesians 5:30.)
• I have boldness and confident access to God through faith in Christ.… In whom we have boldness and confident access to God because of Christ's faithfulness (Ephesians 3:12).
• My new self is righteous and holy.… Put on the new man who has been created in God's image--in righteousness and holiness that comes from truth (Ephesians 4:24).
• I was formerly darkness, but now I am light in the Lord.… For you were at one time darkness, but now you are/netbible2/index.php?header=&book=eph&chapter=5 light in the Lord. Walk as children of the light (Ephesians 5:8).
• I am a citizen of heaven. But our citizenship is in heaven--and we also await a savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ … (Philippians 3:20).
• The peace of God guards my heart and mind. And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).
• God supplies all my needs. And my God will supply your every need according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).
• I have been made complete in Christ.… You have been filled in him, who is the head over every ruler and authority (Colossians 2:10).
• I have been raised up with Christ. Therefore, if you have been raised with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God (Colossians 3:1).
• My life is hidden with Christ in God.… For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3).
• Christ is my life, and I will be revealed with Him in glory. When Christ (who is your life) appears, then you too will be revealed in glory with him (Colossians 3:4).
• I have been chosen of God, and I am holy and beloved. Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with a heart of mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience … (Colossians 3:12).
• God loves me and has chosen me.We know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you … (1 Thessalonians 1:4).
The more we embrace these truths from Scripture about who we have become in Christ, the more stable, grateful, and fully assured we will be in this world.
Here is a great article about the "I am's" in the word of God. I hope these help in your times of study.

Action Steps: Just like in the word of God we can find the "I am's" of Jesus, but there are also the "I am's" that refer to you. Find out who you are in the Word of God. Then begin to see yourself like the word of God sees you. Talk to you like the Word of God talks to you.

The Power of Words

Proverbs 18:21 “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.”
Picture
The tongue, even though among the smallest of all the members of the body (James 3:5) can do the most damage.  I remember hearing words like “You can’t do that.  You’ll never amount to nothing.  You are so worthless” and those words stuck long and went deep.  The old saying “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me” is completely untrue.  Wounds from sticks and stones can heal but often words wound us deeper than any superficial wounds and are sometimes next to impossible to heal. We can all remember things people have said to us that still have an affect on us today.
Picture
If every word we spoke came true immediately I am sure we would have no problem changing our speech. But, they don't. Many take years to see the fruit.
Matthew 12:36-27 “I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak, for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
Action Step:  Today take heed what you say. Think before you speak. Is it true? Does it need to be said? Is it kind? Does the person we are saying this to benefit from hearing it? If after you ask yourself a few questions you still feel the need to say it, then so be it. If not, remain silent. Silence is never misquoted.

When somebody loves you.

I read once that when somebody loves you, it changes the way they say your name. One little kindergarten boy said, "When someone loves you, your name is safe in their mouth." I am not sure he knew what he was saying, but I will certainly agree with him.

My grandson's both say my name with a smile. The way they say it goes up on the end and lingers like a "meow". I know you are all saying to yourselves, "Right." She is definitely a "Nonna" talking. I agree. However, listen to the way people say your name. I am willing to say you will agree, if you put it to the test.
Picture
When we love somebody we honor them. Honor brings favor. Favor brings promotion, access, privileges, wealth and all sorts of wonderful things into our lives. When the woman with the alabaster box broke it open and anointed Jesus she went from outside to a place at his feet. When Ruth showed favor to Naomi she found her field of dreams and Boaz found her. Favor can show up when you seem to be locked away from all your dreams, just ask Joseph. Even Jezebel couldn't keep Joseph from being promoted, though she tried to steal his dream. Naaman needed only to obey the prophet of God and wash in the Jordan, to receive his healing.

Many don't want to honor by obeying, because they don't like the vessel the instruction came through, or they just plain don't want to do what they are told. Favor is not withheld by God, it is withheld by our own choices.

Action Step: Choose to show favor to those you want in your future. Ask Abigail. She showed favor to a soon to be King, and ended up in his palace. Nabal refused to honor a soon to be king, and lost his wife and his life. Speak Kindly of those you want in your future. Make sure their name is safe in your mouth.

Remembering Memorial Day

Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. ... Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971.

Today is a day to remember the dead. As we picnic and enjoy family, let's remember those that have given their life so that we can do these things today. We are grateful for the price they have paid. We give thanks today to all the families that made the ultimate sacrifice of being without their loved ones so that we could live in a free nation.

God bless America.

Limited by time.

James 4:14 (ESV) "Yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes."
We are all limited by time. We can't wait till we grow, up then we can't wait till we get married. Then we can't wait until we have children. Then we can't wait until our children are grown. This week I got to see it all. There were all ages and all stages every where I looked. I realized how everyone I was looking at had changed over the past 30 plus years. The batons had been passed as well as many of the old timers. The reality set in that we are all limited by time. We can not turn back the hands of time. We can not make time go faster or slow down. Time marches at it's own pace. So, we must make good use of the time we have.

If you had a bank that credited your account each morning with $86,000 that carried over no balance from day to day...Allowed you to keep no cash in your account, and every evening cancelled whatever part of the amount you failed to use during the day, what would you do? Draw out every cent every day, of course, and use it to your advantage! Well, you have such a bank, and its name is TIME! Every morning it credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it rules off as lost whatever of this you failed to invest to good purpose. It carries over no balances, it allows no overdrafts. Each day it opens a new account with you. If you fail to use the day's deposits, the loss is yours. There is no going back. There is no drawing against tomorrow.

Psalm 90:12 (KJV) "Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom."
Action Step: Today choose to use your time wisely. One day you will awake and realize that for you, time is running out.

Pour it all out.

1 Kings 17:12 (KJV) "And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die."
When it seems that things are running low, go ahead and pour it all out. When there is not enough anyway, may as well give it all away. At least for a while you will enjoy the satisfaction that comes with celebrating with others, what you once had. This is the story of the woman above. This is love in action.
Picture
God knows what we need. Never the less, He waits for us to cry out to Him. Knowing ahead of time our needs. He has already prepared for us provision. He is Jehovah Jireh the One who sees ahead.
Picture
It is always, "and it shall come to pass..." with God; or it is, "...and afterwards...".  There is an act of faith required when living the life of God. Serving God takes faith. The journey of any believer is just that, "We must believe."

However, what God says, He does. What God has spoken, will come to pass. Hold on to the promises of God. We have so much to look forward to in the days ahead. Start asking God for what He already knows you have need of and go ahead, pour it out.

There is only one way.

I use my GPS all the time. I prefer the one on my phone because for some strange reason it works better than the one on my $35,000. car. Figure that one out? No my car is not old, nor does my GPS need updated. So, this got me thinking. Since more than once my automobile GPS has taken me either to a dead end, or the wrong way.

When you don't know your going in the wrong direction, it doesn't bother you at all to listen to the polite voice telling you left here, merge right and continue for 27 miles. However, when you know where you are headed, and can plainly see that the GPS is not taking you in that direction, it can become quite frustrating. That's why many sinners don't see they are headed in the wrong direction. They are listening to the misinformed voice.

It is much easier to turn around than to keep going in the wrong direction thinking you will find another way. Come on. We’ve all done it.  “Just keep going we’re bound to see another sign.” Yes, and the sign we see may not be the one you are expecting. Not all voices have your best interest in mind. They could be programed wrong and when that happens it is inevitable that we will go the wrong way.
Picture
I remember once teaching in a Bible College. I had taught on sermon preparation. The students were to have a title, a text, three points and a closing. Part of their grade was to deliver that sermon in three minutes or less. All my students did an outstanding job. One young lady preached on "GPS" God's Plan of Salvation. Whenever I find myself fighting with my GPS I remember there truly is only one way to heaven. There may be many ways to the nearest Walmart. Most often however, the GPS gives you three routes. They are the quickest, the shortest and alternate. If only Salvation was that easy. See it's not the route that gets us messed up. It is the choices along the route.

Having a hard time making decisions? Go back to the original GPS found in the Bible. It takes all the guess work out of the way to travel this journey called life.

In search of the sun.

In search of the sun. I love a good play on words. Many want to go to the beach or the mountains on a beautiful sunny day. But, what happens when the trip is made and the sun goes down or a storm sets in? Do we still enjoy the journey? Those with the right attitude and character do. We make our choices. Choices make us.

Following Jesus is not always sunshine. Yes, the Son did rise; but before He did, it got quite stormy.  We make a commitment. We get all in. Then, comes the test. Do you really stand for what you believe in? Are you willing to get some skin in the game? Because, if you are--it's gonna cost you.

Ask the disciples that followed Jesus. Ask those of us that still call ourselves His disciples. We will tell you the same. Christianity is not a game. Life is not a spectator sport. Life has ups and downs--prepare yourself for them.
Picture
Mark 15:33 (KJV) "And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour."
The end is not necessarily the end. It may look like the end. It may feel like the end. However in reality, it may just be the beginning of something wonderful. Keep searching for the Son...life is beach.

There is Power in your Speech.

When it seems, the storms are all around you, keep them from getting inside of you. There is a greater one on the inside of you, that speaks to storms. Allow the voice of the Spirit to speak. The Word of God was so important to God, He named His son "The Word". Think about that for a moment. The Word of God was made flesh.

It’s the Word of God that “was made”, that I want you to focus on today. Make your world by your words. What you say is what you will make. What you have said already, is what you have already. By changing what we meditate on, we can change what we have. It is out of the abundance of the heart that we speak.
Picture
A formidable power dwells within each of us. This power has changed the course of nations. It is capable of starting and ending wars. And it has made men rich and women famous. It has the means to commend or corrupt—to bless or to blame. It is the power of the tongue.
Picture
That is why we would do well to watch our mouths, but I will tell you that it is not an easy thing to do. In addition to the verse above, which reminds us that our words hold the power of life and death, Mark 11 reminds us that our words have the power to cast entire mountains into the sea and wither fig trees. How could we ever hope to tame such a thing as the tongue (James 3:1-12)? By what we read, watch, think about and who we allow to speak into our lives.

The adversary of life~the untamed tongue.

I seriously enjoy birds. However, birds are a lot like other creations--some are easier to like than others. For example I really like little finches, sparrows and cardinals. I don't care for hawks. They are mean. They run off all my little birds including my hummingbirds which are some of my favorites. What runs them off? Their mouth. "Caw", "Caw", "Caw", and just like that all the little birds are gone. As long as the hawk is running it's mouth all the other birds stay away.
Picture
If I had a bee bee gun and it was legal, my neighborhood may have fewer hawks. I would truly like to relocate the adversarial feathered squawkers, and bring peace back to the neighborhood. As you ponder this with me today, let's ask ourselves about our own behavior especially concerning our mouths.
The Bible isn’t a book about happiness; it is a book about holiness. This means sometimes the Bible will say things that you and I don’t like. Yet, if our goal is to become progressively holy, we will welcome the hard words of Scripture. For hard words make soft people and soft words make hard people.
Picture
In 5:2 Solomon writes, “Do not be hasty in word or impulsive in thought to bring up a matter in the presence of God. For God is in heaven and you are on the earth; therefore let your words be few.”
Picture
Challenge for today? Watch what we say. Are our words drawing people or running people off? Are the words we say helpful or hurtful? Only you and I can answer that question.
What we mediate on will come out our mouth. Therefore the remedy for the right words to speak at the right time to treat others are you, yourself want to be treated,
