Can you trust your default setting?

Peter was one of the twelve disciples most closely associated with Jesus.
His denials are made in the face of accusation that he was "with Jesus", the term indicating the bond of discipleship.
The Gospel of Matthew states that Peter denied Jesus "in front of everyone", thus making a public witness, affirming this with an oath.

When we start operating from our core it can cause problems, or become a catalyst for change. We get to choose the reason an audience gathers. Going through things in life externally is easier but disastrous, because inside of us we have answers to be destroyers of evil, instead of employers of evil. We have to get in partnership with God. There is no failure in the core that is greater than anything you can see. The Word of God changes who we are on the inside. The anointed version of who you are will be intentional, and do the hard things. So, we have to resist the default setting and change our core. Peter learned to surrender and live from his core--the will of God, not the will of self.

ACTION STEP: Live from the new core on the inside of you. Pray God change your inside and everything on the outside will change. Remember FEAR doesn't have a right to question you--FEAR didn't die for you. Refuse to allow yourself to go back to who you were and step fully into your destiny.

I believe in you and you need to believe in yourself.

The thornbush has roses.

"Instead of saying the roses have thorns-let's see and say, the thorns have roses."
The way we see things matters.
God wants us to see what He sees!

Picture
The only way for us to go up is to grow up in the things of God! Read the Word! Pray and spend time with the Father.
ACTION STEP: Breathe. Take time for self care. Enjoy the journey. Our connection is with God not with Social Media. Be a real model not a role model. We will all make mistakes but what matters is we learn from them. Grow from them. Teach others what we have learned. Keep going for God. Refuse to let problems and pressures keep you from the goal God has set in front of you.

The Process of healing takes time, revelation is progressive.

Spiritual and emotional healing is often a process with steps that we need to put action behind.
Proverbs 4:20 (NIV)
"My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words."

Picture
The image above caught my eye because many people have revelation all around them, but rarely on the inside of them. Then, I noticed that the one with the light on the inside of their person had no face. When I saw this, I realized that once we have the revelation on the inside us, what we portray to others changes. They begin to see the light shining from within us. God said, we are the light of the world. The first place the light needs to be is inside of us. Jesus is the light.

ACTION STEP: Start telling your story. Where has God brought you from? How far have you come? How did God save you? Once you tell your story it begins to bring God glory. They overcame by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony. To get a testimony you have to have come through a test. Tell your story at least 100 times. By the 99th time a tear may trinkle down your face, but that's okay. Tell your story anyway.

Sometimes you gotta hurt to heal

“Our wounds are often the openings into the best and most beautiful part of us.”
― David Richo
Picture
If you would have told me how painful this journey to self discovery would have been, I would have set out anyway. I would have started anyway. I would have got the coach anyway. I would have done all the hard work anyway. I truly did not know me--the real me. I thought I knew me. I was the one everyone needed. I was the one that could get it done. I was the one that you could count on. But, who was I counting on? Sure, I knew Jesus as my Savior. I even went a step further. I made Jesus as my Lord and Master. But, I refused to know me. The hurt little girl in the grown up body that still felt like a nobody. I refused to get to know that young mother, with more pain than she could utter; yet was admired for all they said mattered. The perfect daughter. The faithful friend. The trying hard Christian. The making it work no matter what wife. But, inside alone, lonely, frightened and battling, always feeling less than and never good enough.

When the revelation came it cut like a knife. I tried to dodge the pain, but was naked with no where to run. I had no accusers, just "once been there too losers now winners", telling me I could do this. I will always be grateful for that first class...a class I took to find out how to help others--set me on the path to self-discovery to love and get to know me.
ACTION STEP: Tell the people you love today that you are there for them. We are all in the process. We are born to die. We are born to learn to endure the journey to get to the finish line. Get there holding up the hand of the hero's all around you, that almost didn't make it, and fell down but got back up. Quit but started again. Quit what's holding you in a place you know you don't belong.

Today, I am letting go of a bad knee for a good knee.

The Goodness of God.

Romans 2:4b NKJV
"... not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?"
Picture
The more we learn about God’s goodness, the more we are drawn to the wonderful gift He offers us—salvation through His son Jesus Christ. Because of His goodness and love for us, God gave His only Son, who was sinless, to pay for our sins.

2 Corinthians 5:21 tells us that “God made him who had no sin [Jesus] to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God."

Even though we do good things or try to live a good life, we are not good by nature. The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 3:10, “There is no one righteous, not even one.”

Our goodness has to come from the source of all good things—God, who is inherently good. He urges us to come to repentance and, as we read in Romans 2:4, He patiently waits for us: “Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?"

The biblical definition of repentance is "to change one's mind." The Bible tells us that when a person repents, his or her actions change. Acts 3:19 says, "Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord."

Acts 26:20 declares, “I preached that they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds.” The full biblical definition of repentance is a change of mind that results in a change of action.

ACTION STEP: Don't worry. Pray. Don't say I can't. Know with Gods help you can. I know we are all spinning a lot of plates these days. Some of us have even dropped a few and they have broken. But God is a master at mending broken people, so plates are no problem for Him.

Be encouraged today. You and God have got this. I believe in you and you need to believe in yourself. Help me help others and be a Legacy Leaver by sharing, subscribing and reposting! Thanks so much.

Seasons in Life and Transitions

4/21/2021

Ecclesiastes 3:1
"For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:"
Picture
I have lived thorough many seasons of life and had to make a lot of transitions. A season of being alone and wishing I had someone to share the load, the decisions, and just me-share me. I went through a season of is this the man or is this one? Is this what I want to major in or am I crazy?  Then, marriage and kids was a season I thought would never end. I call that Season the "Whirlwind Stage." The whirlwind season was a really hard season for me. I was constantly running here and there, dance classes, soccer, church, prom, madrigals, track and it seemed as though I never stopped. The whirlwind stage was, the dish washer running and washing machine never stopping. I wondered if I would ever get to take a nap again? Then, before you I knew it the senior year, the college degree and yes, my baby girl getting married season. Now, now it's the season of grand babies, church family and working on my doctorate and a book to leave a legacy.

King Solomon was a knowledgeable man who thought a lot about the way life goes. He wrote these words in Ecclesiastes 3.

To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven:
2 A time to be born,
    And a time to die;
A time to plant,
    And a time to pluck what is planted;
3 A time to kill,
    And a time to heal;
A time to break down,
    And a time to build up;
4 A time to weep,
    And a time to laugh;
A time to mourn,
    And a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones,
    And a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace,
    And a time to refrain from embracing;
6 A time to gain,
    And a time to lose;
A time to keep,
    And a time to throw away;
7 A time to tear,
    And a time to sew;
A time to keep silence,
    And a time to speak;
8 A time to love,
    And a time to hate;
A time of war,
    And a time of peace.
The God-Given Task

9 What profit has the worker from that in which he labors? 10 I have seen the God-given task with which the sons of men are to be occupied. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also He has put eternity in their hearts, except that no one can find out the work that God does from beginning to end.
(Ecclesiastes 3:1-11)

We all experience change and transition in life. Sometimes life is exciting, dynamic, and we feel on top of the world. At other times we just want to go away and escape the situation – as King David said, “Oh that I could fly away with wings like a dove”.

We must understand the seasons. If we do not understand that there are seasons in life, we may draw the wrong conclusions about what is happening in our lives, or the reasons for it.

God has a plan and a purpose to make your life beautiful. God has us in a process. We can’t see the scope of God’s work from beginning to end. We are short sighted.

In tough times where health, money, friends, marriage is not looking good we may wonder what is going on. But God makes us beautiful through all the trials,  and circumstances in life. It is during the tough seasons that we often grow the most in our character. It is difficult to form outstanding character in seasons of pure prosperity. This is one reason why God ordains seasons where we have to fight, where things do not come easily.

Here are some examples of seasons:

Being single and wanting to be married – for most people it's only a season.

There can be seasons of study, unemployment and other seasons of prosperity where work is abundant.

All of these things can be in seasons.

If you try to hang onto something that is in the past, it can turn it sour.

Don’t try to push something in the wrong season. We mustn’t look back all the time wishing for our favorite season of the past to return. Instead we must forget what lies behind and push forward to what lies ahead.

Here are some things that are good to know about seasons.

1. No matter what season you are in, no season lasts forever.

“This too shall pass”. Change is always on its way. Like a coin with two sides, life has a way of changing.

Good seasons come and go, as do bad seasons.

Bad seasons do not last forever.

If you are heart-broken due to a failed relationship, you may feel as though the world will end.
It won't.

Good seasons of external blessing do not last forever in this life.

In Ps 30:6, King David said:

“Now in my prosperity I said, “I shall never be moved.”

Good seasons of prosperity do not last forever. The Psalms teach us that good times and bad times go.

2. Change of seasons is not a sign that you are good or bad person

When bad things happen its not a sign that you are a bad person. It's just a sign that bad things are happening.

Bad things do happen to good people. Take Job for example. He had good seasons, but he is remembered for the terrible time of oppression and loss he faced. Yet he was a righteous man. Do not assume that you are worse than others if you suffer loss or go through a trial.

Genesis 8:22 says, “As long as the earth remains, there will be springtime and harvest, winter and summer, day and night.” There are going to be seasons until Jesus returns and maybe beyond.

Don’t read too much into negative things that happen. Stuff happens in life.

3. Never let the season you are in define who you are.

Don’t change what you believe according to what season you are in. People often made bad decisions in tough times and transitions. When you are in a challenging or difficult season, don’t do too much. Be careful what meaning you give things in the tough seasons of God.

In the life of Joseph in the Book of Genesis, we see that the season of prosperity will always be preceded by pits and prison. Character is developed in the pits and prisons.

God’s plans don’t change just because seasons do.

God’s plan for Joseph to be a great ruler never changed because he was put in the pit or in the prison.

God is still with you whether you are in a pit, prison or a palace.

4. Most seasons are followed by opposite seasons.

We don’t control everything in life. There are a lot of things we can’t control.
Life has a way of popping up with different things.

KEEP THE DREAM IN YOUR HEART AT ALL TIMES. Don’t give up your God-given dreams because your circumstances have turned sour. You don’t know what God can do.

5. We need to build consistency in every season

Paul told Timothy: “Preach the word of God, be instant in season and out of season.”

Young preachers don’t always understand the seasons. There will be times when things go well in church life and ministry, and other times of incredible hardship and transition.

Wherever there are people there is going to be problems. Just expect it.

Be patient, patiently rebuke, encourage and give good teaching consistently. Give good teaching no matter what the season. It may be a season of harvest, or a season of ploughing and sowing. Doing what is required now will enable you to benefit during the harvest season.

Be consistent!

Do the work that the season you are in requires.

Farmers do different work in different seasons.

There are times for planting, resting, watering, harvesting.

There is a lot of preparatory work required in order to reap a harvest.

Marriages also go through seasons.

Work through the season you are in.

Prov 20:4 A sluggard does not plow in season. So when the harvest time comes he looks but finds nothing.

We need to do the work that corresponds to the season.

6. Learn from every season that you are in

Every season has lessons of life for us.

In Joseph’s life, the plan of God was for him to rule, but before he ruled he was ruled over.

What I am learning now will help me be wiser when I next go through this season, or it will be useful when I have a friend that goes through this season. You can learn things in your dark seasons that enable you to minister hope and stability to others who will face these kinds of things in the future. So don’t despair if there are trials. God is with you in it, and will bring you through.

7. Keep the Right Season in your Heart no Matter the Outside Season

It's only the water thats on the inside of the boat that causes danger, not the water outside the boat.

Even if there is conflict, trouble in the exterior, GUARD YOUR HEART. Our heart condition greatly influences the course and situations of our life. I believe this is because God crafts circumstances according to the lessons we need to learn.

We can’t control what happens around us, but we can control what happens inside. You can’t control how people treat you, but you can control how you respond to what they do.

8. Prepare for the Next Season

“Farmers who wait for perfect weather never plant. If they watch every cloud, they never harvest.” Ecc 11:4

When things are tough, do what you know you need to do.

You can have financial loss along the path of doing God’s will, but God can turn it around.

Prepare for the time when the favorable wins will blow again.

Don’t resign yourself to something.

Have a sense of fight. Don’t allow the season to make you resign to whatever is happening.

9. God is at Work in Every Season

The Lord was with Joseph in Potiphar’s house. The Lord blessed him and favored him.

If you are a favored one you are favored no matter where you are.

There are seasons of fruitfulness and there are also seasons of hard hard labor.
Farmers keep planting even if they lose a whole year’s work due to events in nature, like floods or droughts.

We can be confident that God is working things out for our good no matter how things are going in our external world. God’s main purpose is to prepare and form us for eternity, to conform us to the image of Jesus Christ. When we understand that, we can understand that we are not going to have easy seasons all the time. Even the blessed man of Psalm 1 who meditates on the world bears fruit “in its season” (Ps 1:1-3). Whether we see fruit in our current season or not, God is still at work, preparing something good for us.

Praise the Lord!

ACTION STEP: Embrace your season. Take time to enjoy each season your are gifted to be in. If it's Winter well--bundle up and tell yourself Spring it on the way. If its Fall--let go and allow the things that were once a part of you to just blow off. Allow yourself to be pruned and covered, so you make it through till Spring. God knows we weather some drastic climate changes, but we got this. We may feel like we can't do one more thing- but we can.

Take time to be someone special for a lonely teenage kid, or a busy mom. Be kind. Be what you are looking for.

Can you see what I mean? Seasons changes rapidly today did you see the snow? My Daddy always said there would be two snows the Easter Snow and the Blue Bird Snow. Daddy was always right.

I believe in you and you need to believe in yourself.

Yeah, so this happened today. Go to get pre-admission for the minor knee repair and this is the bracelet they give me. I wondered if I went to bed in America, and woke up in China? What is happening to our nation? We make so little here in the land that I love, and seas white with foam. We say not a word and notice oh so little.

ACTION STEP: Take time today to pray for this great nation. Update you more tomorrow.

AAR-After Action Review-The what, why and how.

Today's Blog, is a bit different but I believe it will be quit helpful. I am currently working on a Template for those I coach in ministry; which will be available on my website. For today, I will share one that the Military uses. I think it will give you an idea of how and what an AAR is and how to use it to help you improve your relationships.  Change the topics to match your needs after watching the You Tube.

An after action review (AAR) is a structured review or de-brief (debriefing) process for analyzing what happened, why it happened, and how it can be done better by the participants and those responsible for the project or event. This review exercise occurs after the “action” has already happened. It’s a formal process that was first used by the American Army to evaluate combat missions.

Now, it’s used by teams of all kinds including mega-corporations like GE, British Petroleum, and Motorola. The entire process centers around four questions asked in the following order:
  1. First, “What did we expect to happen?”
  2. Then, “What actually occurred?”
  3. Next, “What went well and why?”
  4. And finally, “What can we improve upon and how?”
The Benefits After action reviews can impact your business in multiple ways. They allow for team and project strengths to be more easily identified. They also make it easier to discover areas of weakness and ways to improve upon them.

In short, an after action review provides knowledge, and as the old saying goes, knowledge is power. Without knowing what went wrong, how can you ever expect to improve?

On the other hand, if you don’t know why something went right, you’ll have a hard time duplicating your success in the future. The after action review gives you the knowledge you need to improve your organization in tangible ways.

5 Steps to SuccessNow that we know what an after action review is and why it’s beneficial, let’s cover the steps you need to take to conduct one successfully.

Step 1: Make it a PriorityThis is the first step. If the after action review process isn’t a priority, it will end up falling by the wayside, guaranteed.

There are too many other projects to start, fires to put out, and general activities to accomplish. So commit, right now. Decide that your company will use the after action review process and that a project won’t be considered “done” until the review is complete.

Make it the final step on every project your team undertakes. One final note: the sooner you can start your after action review process, the better. Ideally, you’d never wait longer than two weeks after a project finishes.

Why? Because the project will still be fresh in each team member’s mind. The longer you wait, the more fuzzy minor, yet important, details will become.

Step 2: Include Everyone Involved With the ProjectAn after action review isn’t something that you can effectively do on your own unless you were the only person to working on the project. If you had a team to help you, they should each be present during the review process.
This will ensure that everyone’s point of view is accounted for, that no struggles go unnoticed, and that every team strength is recognized. It will also provide you with insights you may not have had before.

As the team’s leader, you likely aren’t “down in the weeds” like those under you. Which means you don’t have all the nitty-gritty details you need to improve upon company processes. You need your team to provide you with these valuable insights.

Once you have each team member in the same room, it’s important that you set the right expectations and create the appropriate atmosphere.

What do we mean by that? Simple, everyone should be comfortable participating and sharing their thoughts on the project. This isn’t a personal performance session. Rather, it’s a time for open and honest discussions that will lead to collective improvement.

Step 3: Ask the Right QuestionsWe mentioned earlier that there are four main questions you need to ask during every after action review. Let’s discuss each of them in greater detail.

1. “What did we expect to happen?”This is the best question to start with. Ask yourself and your team, “What did we anticipate would be the end result of this project?” This question will naturally shine a light on important topics such as whether the project goal was accomplished if the target audience was reached, why a specific deadline was or wasn’t met, and more.

2. “What actually occurred?”Once your team has discussed initial expectations, dive into what actually occurred over the course of the project. Don’t hold back.

Explore both the good and bad of what really went down. It might be practical to ask this question, then give your team a few minutes to reflect upon their answers. When this is accomplished, go around the room and glean insight from each individual team member.

This will ensure that every opinion is accounted for and no “golden nugget” idea is forgotten. In regards to team members comments, ask them to be specific with their examples and to focus on facts more than feelings. You should recognize feelings, but always base company improvements on cold hard facts.

3. “What went well and why?”Now is the time to dive into every aspect of the project that went well. Dig deep here and identify the reasons why these areas proved so successful.
Was it because of a certain process or tool?

Did a specific person step up in a big way and carry the project on their shoulders for a time?
You need to know what went right and why. Remember, knowledge is power. The more you know about your team’s successes, the better chance you have of securing repeat wins in the future.

If you’re having a hard time getting the conversation flowing, go around the room again and ask each individual person their thoughts. Give them a straightforward question. Something like, “In your opinion, what factor had the greatest impact on project success?”

4. “What can we improve upon and how?”The final question deals with the ways your team can improve. We recommend tackling this query after discussing what went right. This will help boost team morale and ensure blame isn’t thrown at specific team members.

Ask your team what the group could have done better. After completing the project, what did they learn that will help them do things more accurately and efficiently next time?\

Again, ask your staff to dig deep and be honest. Nobody is going to get in trouble. The purpose is to learn from the mistakes made so that they aren’t made again in the future. Also, don’t just identify what when wrong, but why.

The “why” is so important!

You can list one hundred things that went awry during the project. But if you don’t know why things happened the way they did, you’ll have a very hard time improving.

Pro Tip: Have a Dedicated Note-TakerIf possible during your after action review meeting, have a dedicated note-taker. Preferably one who wasn’t involved with the project. That way they can focus on cataloging insights rather than giving them.

Having each of your team’s comments neatly documented will make it much easier to implement future changes and double down on successful tactics.

Step 4: Craft Your After Action Review ReportOnce you’ve asked each of the four questions, received your team’s answers, and concluded the after action report meeting, it’s time to craft your final report.\

This doesn’t need to be anything fancy. But it does need to summarize the points made during the meeting in an easily shareable format. We recommend including basic information like the name of the project, the date of the meeting, and the names of those who attended.

Then summarize the project — the good, the bad, and the ugly — and clearly list the wins that should be repeated and the mistakes that should be remedied for future projects. Then put all these details together in a document and send it to your superiors as well as each member of your team.

Step 5: Implement All Necessary ChangesAt this point, you’ve made your after action review a priority, you’ve called a meeting and each team member involved in the project attended, you’ve based your discussion around the four main questions outlined above, and you’ve crafted a clear and concise report outlining everything discussed in the meeting.

There’s only one thing left to do: implement any and all necessary changes as identified during the after action review process. What this looks like will completely depend on the industry you work in and the problems your team needs to address.

But in general, begin implementing changes immediately. The longer you wait, the more likely it becomes that things will stay the same.
ACTION STEP: If relationships are important to you and you want to keep them in the long haul, make them enjoyable. It may be hard to get the ball rolling, as in teaching everyone how to work together for the better, but it will be worth it in the long haul.

I believe in you. Believe in yourself, and learn to trust and believe in others. God will help us in our weaknesses, for when we are weak He is strong.
