Be somebody's Someone.

When you run a race it is a weird thing. You are with perhaps hundreds or even thousands of people, and you still feel alone. You may only be an arms length or less away from someone else, but you may as well be a hundred miles apart. Everyone runs their own race, or at least they should. No two people are exactly alike, but we do have things in common. We all want to finish the race. We all need encouragement. There are times when we are running, that our minds drift off to a distant place, a forgotten time, or a memory we can't shake. You've all heard of the runners high. Few have heard of the runners cry. As a runner I have experienced both. That's when we need our someone. That's when you have the opportunity to be somebody's someone. Many have been my someone, but there is one who is always with me. He is the assurance that I will finish the race of my life.

I live for Christ. Christ is my Somebody, but sometimes I need a someone with skin on. Sometimes I need to be that Someone with skin on. Recently in a 4 mile run on the 4th of July, I had an opportunity to be somebody's Someone. They started the race way to fast and were hurting, and breathing heavy, at about the 1 -1 1/2 mile mark. When I caught up to them, I could see the reddened face, and the white lips. When you're a runner you know the signs. I told her, "Out like a Rabbit finish like a Turtle." I ask her if I could pace her for awhile. I started sharing tips..."Run silent. If you hear your shoes you're wasting necessary energy. Breathe through your nose and out your mouth. Use your arms when your legs get tired." She started feeling better. Her smile came back she was going to be just fine. Before I took off I told her, "I'll see you at the finish line." That I did! She finished like a Rabbit.

The race we run is prayerfully long. It will be hard at times. Thankfully the course is not all up hill, nor is it all down hill. Somedays, it is just plain hot and we have to sweat it out. Other days, the chill seems to cut like a knife--but we run. We are promised that at the end of the race there is a prize. We run for that. We are also promised in this race, that we will never have to run alone. There is someone who sticks closer than a brother. I am blessed to have 4 brothers. I love them all. One is in Heaven and I am looking forward to seeing him there. I may not talk to them everyday. I may not see them nearly as much as I would like, but I know that if I needed them they would be there. My husband and my children are my someones. My pastors and Steels are my someones. Some of my friends are that someone. We all need to have someone.

If you are running alone I encourage you to ask Jesus to be your Savior. Ask Him to show Himself strong on your behalf. If you started out running with Him and then took a turn, so that now you are running away from Him, I urge you to turn around. If you want to finish well, never run alone. Life is meant for us to be somebody's someone and to always have the assurance that we too, will always have Someone.
Proverbs 18:24
"A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly:
and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother."

ACTION STEP: Be somebody's someone today. Get out there and run your own race. Keep your own pace. Who cares how slow or fast someone else appears to be running? No one knows their final miles of the race they are running. For some it could be there final few miles. For others they may have several miles to go. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and stay focused on the finish line. No one said it would be easy...but He did say, "You are never alone." He wants to be that "Someone" to all of us, and we should all strive to be like Him. WWJD?
