Bitter sweet and changing seasons.

Ecclesiastics 7:8 NKJV
"Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit."

Things dying always makes me sad. I don't like it when my herbs and vegetables start to die off. I really get sad when the leaves fall off the trees, and the flowers fade away. It's as though the whole world is dying. I remind myself if the lush green trees stayed that way, I'd never see all the vibrant colors of Fall I love so much. I wouldn't get to crunch in to that sweet ear of corn, or Honeycrisp apple, if Fall were not here. Life comes bitter sweet. 

I think Thanksgiving is appropriately named. We give thanks for what has been given to us. Maybe it wasn't the greatest of Summers. We had to keep our distance, wear a mask and most, if not all the things we were looking so forward to, were cancelled. But, we had the moments. We had the bitter and the sweet.

The truth of life--is that it is, bitter sweet. I thank God for the sweet resurrection, but--I want life without the bitter death of the cross. We can't have one without the other. We can't bring forth a child from the womb without the pain of childbirth. 

ACTION STEP: As we step into a new month tomorrow, and leave behind the sweet summer days, remind yourself, I can't have it all. Only in Heaven, will we be able to have it all, and in order to get there--we have to let go of some sweet things today. Sweet things loose their flavor if we hold onto them to long. An apple or that leftover steak, are not good in a week. Let go of the pleasures of sin--they only last for a season. Seasons change.
