There are lots of reasons we can come up with for not following, or postponing following Jesus. In the scripture below we see three different people, with three different reasons for not following Jesus immediately. LUKE 9:57-62 57 As they were going along the road, someone said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.” And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.” To another he said, “Follow me.” But he said, “Lord, let me first go and bury my father.” And Jesus said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.” Yet another said, “I will follow you, Lord, but let me first say farewell to those at my home.” Jesus said to him, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom of God. We can all think of excuses that we have made for not immediately responding to Jesus. We can be in agreement with the three guys above or perhaps we can have some excuses of our own. It's not convenient, I'm to tired, I'm not qualified, someone else will do it. What if others would have been too busy, tired, or preoccupied for doing whatever it was that brought you to Jesus? Can you identify with any of the three persons in the above portion of scripture? Are you too casual, too cautious or too careful to cut loose from all that would tie you to this world, to live in a higher realm of glory? The Lord is calling to each of us, "Come Follow Me". Action step: Ask yourself this question. What is keeping me from fully following Jesus? Then determine in your heart to ask God to help you be free. He hears our prayers.
