That is exactly what Jael did!
SUMMARY OF HER STORY: Judges 4:17-24, 5:24-27
The national battle was brought to her front door, right into her domestic space. This Kenite woman stepped right up to the plate and staked her claim in history-Literally and Spiritually. In Ghana I believe we have “staked off” new apostolic territory, taking on new assignments from God. We said here am I Lord, send me.
Jael, her name means: “mountain goats” “climbing” They are a large hoofed animal.
MOUNTAIN GOAT CHARACTERISTICS: Known for their quickness, alertness, liveliness, dexterity. A surefooted climber, commonly seen on cliffs…. Nannies (female goats) are very PROTECTIVE of HER territory and spend most of the year with their kids. They thrive in rugged mountain regions.
This description fits the woman whose feet and character stay sturdy among the harsh crevices, rocks, and demanding and challenging surroundings of her society.
ROOT: (of Jael) of a RESOLUTE (steadfast, tenacious) woman.
RELATIONS-She was married to a Kenite, name Heber, a man descended from Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law and her family were priests, pathfinders, metal workers, and wanderers, looking for work wherever they could find it.
RELATIONSHIP-Heber----“Comrade”, from Root word meaning: charmer, association.
ROLE MODEL- She was a homemaker, a woman whom Deborah called blessed among women, who dwell in tents. (Judges 5:24-27)
RESPONSIBILITY- She was being faithful to her everyday responsibilities, and found herself, one day, with a choice to make. Her right choice resulted in her being a world changer…valuable to winning the war in Israel.
RELEVANCE- She is symbolic of a stay-at-home mom, a person who stays faithful in natural responsibilities, and who proved to be valuable to winning the war in Israel.
RESOLATE -Jael was PROTECTING Israel’s heritage as the people of God.
Remember for twenty years she had seen the vicious cycle of idolatry of Israel, and all of the evil actions of Sisera, the commander of the Canaanite army------his arrogance, brutality, and what he would do if she were a woman of a tribe he defeated. She would finish the battle Deborah had started and help to ensure forty years of peace in Israel. With Deborah, she would bring PEACE to God’s people by obeying what she knew to be the will of God.
Jael is symbolic of an INTERCESSOR standing between God and the people. What she did was the act of an intercessor. Who are you interceding for today? Can you take your eyes off your own issues and concerns and intercede for someone you may not even know.
Today I am interceding for Wisdom and for the people of Ghana. For the Spiritual Leaders God has connected us to. Clearly the Gospel is centered around how we serve others, this included praying/interceding for them. This Mission Trip is having success because believers are praying and interceding for my husband and me. I am fully convinced that to have any “success” in ministry or work, family, etc., you MUST have intercessors, those individuals who stay in the “boiler room” of the ministry and keep the fiery flames of prayers, praise and worship going up to God.
This is the hour that men and women MUST stand in the gap with prayer to save the next generation. The victories and the soils of war are shared by all who participate, whether you are a stay at home mom, (praying) or you work and help provide the finances for missions-whether you SENT or you WENT we all receive the same reward.
Continue to pray for Ghana. See you Saturday at Women of Witness at 10 am.
