In yesterday's Blog, we looked at the leadership style of Jesus and we found that He corrected the problem, not the person when first dealing with His disciples. Today, Jesus CORRECTS the POSITION of His disciples. What the disciples were really discussing was, “Which one of us is most important?” They were not seeing themselves correctly in the light of their position in Christ. Let's admit it! This is the way we are as falling children of Adam. Once we are saved we need to renew our minds to our position in Christ rather than in comparison to one another.

Jesus now corrects their corrupt mindset regarding how the Kingdom of God works. Our earthly mindset is one of gaining a higher and higher position from hard work or, better yet, who we know. Jesus says to them, “guys, you have it all wrong.” Notice Jesus words to them in correcting them; His words are DIRECT, to the point. “If anyone desires to be first”. His words are DRAMATIC, this was a new challenging concept, “the first…shall be last." His words are DECISIVE not just a good idea, but the way it is. Like it or not the last shall be servant of all. His words could also be considered DEVISIVE. He ran the risk of loosing people because of what He said. Jesus, as a strong leader, was a man of truth. The truth is not to be compromised, regardless how many people like it, or not.
Being a leader is tough. This is why a leader needs to be tough. The Bible tells us that the righteous are as bold as lions. When we stay in right standing with Jesus and with others, we can correct others with boldness. It is always wise to be sure that we are scrubbed of our own agendas, and that we do everything in love. Love never fails. Love wants the best for others. Sometimes wanting the best and doing what's right is costly.
Be willing to pay the cost today. If you need to correct, do it the way Jesus did. It is always a win-win when we follow the example of our Savior.
