At church tonight I was thinking about all the names of God as the message was being preached. It occurred to me that I have several names as well. Each of my names demands me to wear a different hat. Each name has different boundaries that I operate within. Let me give you some examples. I am a mother. When my daughters or son-in-love say my name, something in me kicks into action. However it is a different emotion that comes to life when my grandsons say, "Nonna". Still there is a different emotion that is evoked when someone in my congregation calls my name and still another when my husband calls my name. Did I mention they all have a different name for me as well? We truly are created in God's image. He is the Breasty One and yet He is The Banner Over me, He is my Righteousness, and He is There. The list would last longer than one can write because He still reveals Himself to us today.
Why is it important that we learn and recognize the names of God? Because we invoke a different response from Him when we address Him by a different name. When I address Him as my Healer, I receive that healing. I know this personally. When I address Him as my Provider, He provides for me. Again I have experienced this personally. Just like Abraham, when we learn a new facet of God we experience Him in a new way and a new name. As we grow in Christ those names change.
At one time I called my daughters my babies....sometimes I still do. However they are now grown women, professionals, mother, wife, friend and various other titles to people in their lives. As they have grown I have experienced them in their different titles and roles.
So today ask yourself how He has revealed Himself to you? Has your knowledge of Him grown since He revealed Himself as Savior? Have you made Him your Lord yet? Is there a difference? There sure is! Study to find out what that difference is and share with other readers on Facebook or drop me a line.
