Action Step: Think about what you are modeling for your children, or in large for the next generation. Do you feel confident in how the children of America are being shaped, taught, modeled for and instructed in the things of God? If not, what can you begin to do about it today? Start doing that one thing right now.
Proverbs 22:6 - Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. Deuteronomy 11:19 - And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. I started a new series on parenting. I truly believe we must get back to the Bible and use what it says to teach us how to parent. We have a very small window in which to mold our children into Christlikeness. Yet, our children are the backbone of our society, as they will be the law makers or law breakers. They will become the preachers and the politicians. Therefore, we will either reign or decay, based on how we raise our children. So, parenting matters more than most of the other things we do in life. And, whether you have children or not, you and I are always modeling for others what does it look like to be a child of God? What does is look like to be a Christian? How does a godly father conduct himself? What does a godly mother do differently in raising her children? These and a thousand other whys and whats, are being answered everyday by our behavior--good or bad. We can not leave parenting to chance, to teachers, or to television. In fact, sitting our children in front of a TV for hours will allow the TV to "Tell the vision" for our children's lives. We are to teach and train our children. Train means by modeling and without words. What children see they do. What we model for our children is every bit as important if not more, than what we say. More is caught than taught. We must ask ourselves the question, "If my child grows up to be just like me, is that a good thing?". The reason we must ask ourselves that question is because they will grow up and when they do we will see ourselves. Loving our children well means we do what is best for them in the long run, not in the moment. We care more about their character, than them being a character in front of others. So, we care less about what others think, and more about what God says. We spend more time with our children, than money buying things for our children. We sacrifice the now for the later, knowing that what we put in, is what we will get out.
