Plant Or Weed

Today I spent a good three hours tying up my tomatoes.  I spent a lot of that time cutting off all the extra leaves and pulling weeds.  Why is it weeds grow so fast and my tomatoes seem to grow so slow?  Well when a friend of mine asked the Lord that question he said God told him, “It’s because the weeds don’t have to produce or carry anything.”  This really got me thinking about people.  Some seemingly have it all.  Then you see them in a few years and they’ve lost it all.  What makes the difference?  They were like those weeds.  They weren’t carrying anyone.  They shot up because they were not producing anything that cost them anything.  When you and I begin to carry the things of the Lord it inevitably slows us down.  However, when you carry something it makes you stronger.  Then when the adversity comes we are able to persevere.   When we are carrying the things of God we may grow slower but we learn to carry more weight.

Galatians 3:11-12 (MSG) “11-12 The obvious impossibility of carrying out such a moral program should make it plain that no one can sustain a relationship with God that way. The person who lives in right relationship with God does it by embracing what God arranges for him. Doing things for God is the opposite of entering into what God does for you. Habakkuk had it right: “The person, who believes God, is set right by God—and that’s the real life.” Rule-keeping does not naturally evolve into living by faith, but only perpetuates itself in more and more rule-keeping, a fact observed in Scripture: “The one who does these things [rule-keeping] continues to live by them.”

What are you carrying today?  Are you carrying your fair share? Time will reveal what we do with our life. Make it count.

Your post reminded me of my work in the yard this week. I noticed everything starts small. Ants, spiders, snakes, Birds , kittens and finally flowers and weeds. It was a teachable moment as I rehearsed by day I heard the Lord say, words start small, faith small even fear, but it we feed it, give it
light and water it, it will grow. I was admonished to not feed the small thought that run through my head, but to take every thought captive and measure with the word of God, and only feed my faith.
