Purpose

Psalm 57:2
 "I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me."

To trust that God has nothing but love for us and he would not tell us to do something with out a good reason, is to find our purpose. Find God and you will find your purpose. If you don't know God, then you more than likely won't know your purpose. Purpose fuels passion and visa versa. When we are passionate about something it shows in all areas of our life. Passion shows up in our checking account, relationships, places we go and who we hang out with. Many times we try to do things that we have no passion for. If that has ever happen to you, then you understand what I just said. You wish you could drink a passion elixir and go to work. Well, it is the other way around. When we find our purpose we find passion that is sustained by God, not drugs, hormones or approval from others; not stardom, money or fame.

The first place to look for your purpose is in the Word of God. Jesus found His purpose in Isaiah 61:1-3. Jesus stood and read this and then closed the Book and said today this is fulfilled. Why? Because He knew that this was His purpose.

“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,
And the day of vengeance of our God;
To comfort all who mourn,
3 To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”

What's in you is potential. Right in the middle of the word potential is the number "ten." Ten is the number of symbolically for "test." There were ten virgins, ten plagues, God said ten times in Genesis, there are ten commandments, there were ten generations before the flood. In 1 Samuel 17:17 Jesse tells the soon to be king David to take ten loaves of bread and ten packages of cheese to the battle front. Obedience to his father brought him face to face with Goliath. One test led to another test. David passed each one. You and I can not get away from being tested. We find our our purpose in obedience to leaderships tests.

ACTION STEP: What is your purpose? Ask five friends what you're really good at. Then, write a list of what you would do if money were not an option. Then, ask yourself is there anywhere you can go do that very thing--for free. Church is a great place to plug in and find your calling and purpose. Talk with your pastor. They usually have a good idea, (because they talk to God about you) what you are called to do. They may not have the particulars but serving always reveals destiny.  If you can stick with something long enough and stay faithful in another man's God will give you your own.
