John the Baptist was a REFORMER!!! He was the voice of one crying out in the wilderness.
There are a lot of stories in the Bible where people cry out.
1 Chronicles 4:9-10(KJV) "9 And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. 10 And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested."
Here is the hearts cry of Jabez, “Make me bigger than what I am….Make me bigger than where I’ve come from…let me know you’re with me."
The NKJ translates grieve here in verse 10 to pain.
Don’t let me live in what I came from….
The key word here is HONORABLE.
This means he had the right heart. He was worthy of honor. So God could honor him and it wouldn’t ruin him. He cried out to God for the right thing. For the right reason.
He didn’t want pain in his future. He is telling us:
“I have only known pain”
“I came from pain”
“Make me bigger and better than what I’ve come from”
Maybe you are here and you know what it is to be Jabez. You relate to Jabez. All you’ve know is pain. You grew up in pain.
You were born in pain:
Adopted Orphaned
Addicted Abandoned
An Accident Poor
Crippled Sick
Unwanted …………
Jabez wasn’t just satisfied with getting his needs met.He didn’t want to settle for mundane or status quo.
Jabez wanted a reformed life. Tomorrow we will look more at this subject but remember this: You do not have to live the life you came from. Cry out to God today and He will hear your cry for He is no respecter of persons.
