Selective hearing has always been a problem for those of us that want to hear what we want to hear. It is also a problem for those who have survived trauma or abandonment. We each have a filter through which we hear the voices that surround us. What we hear depends on our filter. If I see the world as a sunny, friendly place, but you are wearing dark glasses, the same world will look as if there is a storm on the horizon to you. So, I might be optimistic while you are fearful; or the other way around. 

If we don't know we are wearing glasses or worse yet realize our filters are clogged with abandonment, fear, negativity or low self-esteem, we may never realize that the world is a better place than we think and not all people are the same. Not all men are undependable. Not all women are selfish. There are no all or none categories in life unless we are talking about God and He is all good, all the time.

The other problem is, when we refuse to see life as it truly is. This is much like the Ostrich, who sticks his head in the sand, because he doesn't want to see the world. We must take off our glasses, and clean our filters, and still be able to see the world as it is, and still function in it. Jesus wore the crown of thorns. He was crucified for our sins. Life is painful, but God gives us grace, when we accept Him as our Lord and Savior. Allow His grace to manifest in your life and submit yourself to what He would have you to do.

Today, see what is going on in the world. Pray for those that are suffering, don't ignore it. At the same time don't allow yourself to throw the entire world out the window, but believe that God is opening a window and pouring out a blessing.
