Self-Esteem in children and in adults.

Joshua 1:9 (ESV) "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."

It's easy to tell a child that what people say, doesn't matter. But, it is hard for even adults to believe that. Often times we shrug off the importance of having friends, fitting in, and doing things that other people do. We compare ourselves with others and then tell our children not to compare. We must remember that healthy parents produce healthy children. If we have low self-esteem then no doubt we will probably produce the same in our children. Our greatest challenge as a parent is to raise children we like to be around as adults. If we affirm and acknowledge our children daily then they will grow up liking themselves. the Bible tells us if we want to have friends we must show ourselves friendly. Building others self-esteem will boomerang around to help build one's own self esteem

Here above is a check list from one to ten in rating your self esteem. How do you rate yourself? If your child is old enough have him or her check themselves, and then discuss the findings. Perhaps you could ask your child what they think they would need to do to in order to move closer to a ten? What would you need to do as a parent to bring up your own score. Share those ideas with your child. Again, healthy parents equals healthy children. This is more the rule rather than an exception.

Action Step: Genesis 1:27 (ESV) "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." Read this scripture over and over a few times, and let it get down on the inside of you. You and your children are created in the image of God. Whatever God is and has, that is what you are, and what you can have. Think about that. You are the image of God. There is nothing in you that was created as a less than. God always does abundantly more than we are able to think. Now live today as if you believed this with all your heart. Act like you believe this. Then watch God add His "at-a-boy!"
