I wanted to show (special) love to a select few. I’ve since learned there is a (special) love, and it doesn’t come with a Valentine card. It comes with Christ.
There are four kinds of love. Agape love is the love one can only experience and give through the power of God. It is a God kind of love. Agape is the highest form of love. Then we have Phileo or the type of love that the word Philadelphia comes from, meaning brotherly love or friendly love. Philadelphia being known as the city of brotherly love and famous for its statue in Love Park. Next is Storga love which is where we probably get the “Stork” story. This is a family love. When we are born into a family we have this biological love for our parents and our siblings and relatives because we are related. Finally we have Eros which is where we get the word erotic. This is a physical love often referred to as the lowest form of love with the most powerful drawling power. I heard one lady say, “Lust turns to rust quickly.”
So I guess we still give Valentine’s Day cards to people. We pick and choose who gets what kind of love. God the Father would have us love everyone with Agape love because that kind of love, never fails.
1st Corinthians 13:4 (NKJV) Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.8 Love never fails…”
If your “Love Bank” is still a bit low and Valentine’s Day just didn’t seem to have what it takes this year. May I suggest quit looking through the “Shoe Box” of life for a special love and start looking through the Bible? Maybe you will find someone really thinks your (special).
