Start Overs & Comb-overs

Start overs and comb-overs have a lot in common, neither one of them last for long.  Today being a new day,  still rather early in the New Year, how many are still dieting, working out, and keeping with that New Year’s resolution?  Probably not everyone who started well will finish well.  Every hair may be in place on January 1st but with the winds of everyday life and the stresses of work, family and relationships the comb-over probably needs a touch up.

Psalm 51:10 (KJV) “Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me.”

We all get dirty from use. Life has a way of tousling our hair. With some daily routines and discipline we cannot just start well, but finish well.  This will require a grace beyond our own skill.  Grace meaning- God’s ability to do through you what you are unable of doing through yourself.

James 1:22-25 (KJV) “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

Just like you wouldn’t comb your hair and never comb it again we can’t just have one start over a year.  If you have messed up-don’t quit. Don’t throw in the towel.  Begin again. Start over. Ask the Lord to help you begin again.  He is the God of start overs

I love the illustration. When my hair gets messed up,all I need to do is fix it. When I mess up, all I need to do is start over. It is a new day. I will rejoice and be glad in it.
