Stay or Stray from the faith? Which will your children choose?

Deuteronomy 6:1-2 (NIV) "These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, 2 so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life."

There are three areas we need to teach our children. The first is their Beliefs. Most think that the first would be Behavior, but if children do not understand "the why" they will not display the behavior for very long. The third thing is Belonging. 

As Christians we know Romans 10:9-10 says, "If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is LORD," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved." 

Once we believe, then our behavior starts to change. It changes because we believe the power of the Holy Spirit inside of us changes us from the inside out. Our "want to" changes. We behave differently because we believe differently. When we are born again we are birthed into a new family--the family of God. We believe that God's word is final authority. We read the word and it tells us we are now children of God and that Jesus will never leave us. We belong.

Children will do what you do, not what you tell them to do.
To teach your child means to train them by modeling.
Your children will become just like you.
