The Bible tells us that our bodies are the temple of God. The Holy Spirit lives inside of us if you are a Christian that is. So it would make sense for us to keep our bodies in good shape so that the Holy Spirit can minister through us to a lost and dying world.
1 Corinthians 3:16 (ESV ) “Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?”
It is also true that we are a spirit. We live in a body and we possess a soul. That being said, if our body wears out our spirit gets evicted. Now our soul is made up of our mind, our will and our emotions. Those three components stay with our soul. When we go to heaven our soul and our spirit leave our body and go to our final dwelling place.
Why do I bring this up in a Blog? There are many people I know that do not take care of their body—their “earth suit” if you will. See in order to be legal on this earth we need a body. Even the son of God had to have one so He was born of a woman.
Eating right and exercise are just two components of taking care of ourselves, but they are very important components. Mentally we also need to “Think Right”. By think right I mean to stay positive. The Bible gives us direction and instruction on how to think.
Romans 12:1-2 (ESV ) “ I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
Philippians 4:8 (NKJV) “8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
There you are for the start of a great day and a great life. No one can make you do these things, they are a free choice, but the choice may determine the quality and length of your life.
