"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy." - Martin Luther King, Jr. Today is Martin Luther King Day. Most of our children will consider this nothing more than a day off. Many adults won't know why today is a national holiday. Some reading this will remember Martin Luther King as nothing more than a black man that was on TV, if that. I encourage you to take the opportunity today to read the history of Martin Luther King, Jr. for yourself, and then share what you learned with those that do not know the significance of why we have this national holiday. If we forget the "Why?", we are left to think up reasons for ourselves. Isaiah 58:1 ESV “Cry aloud; do not hold back; lift up your voice like a trumpet; declare to my people their transgression, to the house of Jacob their sins. I once heard someone say, "Don't be afraid of standing alone. Eagles fly alone. Pigeons flock together." I am uncertain of the source of this saying, or even if I have remembered it correctly, but I am sure you understand what I mean. By using today as an opportunity to remind ourselves, and teach others that the price of standing up for what you believe sometimes cost you deeply, I believe we can all gain much needed courage. Many people, especially the young are afraid of taking a stand. By learning about those that have gone on before us, we can perhaps find the wind beneath our wings as well. What needs a voice in the day in which you are living that wants to use yours? In the days ahead I will begin to share a vision about Deborah's Voice. It is the voice of women across this nation that stand for godliness, marriage and God. There will be a March held in DC on September 29, 2018. Please consider how you can be a part of this.
