Romans 12:1-2 (NIV) “1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Together we are to sacrifice together. We need each other to communicate with one another in order to encourage one another to press on to the mark of the high calling in Christ Jesus. Formation Geese honk to encourage one another. They take turns leading the flock so everyone gets to know the cost of leadership as well as get some well needed rest from being the point man.
Geese help each other. Scientists also discovered that when one goose becomes ill, is shot or injured, and drops out of the formation, two other geese will fall out of formation and remain with the weakened goose. They will stay with and protect the injured goose from predators until it is able to fly again or dies. Likewise, human teams work best when they do more than just work together, but care for the well-being of each other.
It is time for the body of Christ to support rather than point a finger at one another. Like the Formation Geese we need to learn to be there for one another rather than talk about one another. Flying in a V isn’t about staying in the right place it is about flapping at the right time. As each bird flaps its wings the trail of the uplift left by its wingtips also moves up and down. Somehow the birds sense this and adjust their own flap to stay in the lift zone. They actually trace the path of the lead bird. Imagine walking in the footsteps of someone on the beach or in the snow. It matters as a leader and as a follower how you walk and where you walk.
As disciples of Jesus Christ let’s stay together, work together and be a follower of Jesus Christ. Together we are better.
