What sets you off? Do you know your "Triggers"?

I am getting to the age I really want to understand myself and others more than anything. What makes me so mad and why. In my counseling classes I learned about "Triggers".  They are those things that many refer to as "Knee Jerks".  We all have them. They are those things that are said or done that just set us off.  Instantly we are hurt, angry, upset and just plain old mad when we are triggered. We get that knee jerk feeling in our gut and it's over.  Have you ever been there?

So this time when I was "set off", "Triggered" and I could feel that "knee jerk". I asked God, "Why do I feel this way?”  He answered me.  For the first time in my life I was able to articulate why I felt this way over and over again in my life when certain things happened.  It was so simple. Why didn't I think of that before? Well one reason was I never asked God before. I just went with the feeling and blew up at the person with whom triggered me or set me off thinking it was their fault.  In reality it was someone else's action from my past that had blind-sided and kept information from me that hurt me. They had made decisions that affected my entire life and never consulted or discussed those decisions with me. So now when that happens I was deeply reacting.  In essence everyone was paying for what one person had done to me in my past.

Are people around you paying for what others have done to you in the past?  Are those things costing you in your present and stealing from your future?

Jesus ultimately paid for what has been done to each of us.  Why should anyone else have to bear the cost when He himself ultimately paid it all--once and for all?

“He gave his life to purchase freedom for everyone.” (1 Timothy 2:6a NLT)
