Having a talk with your younger self. Let go and run!

Looking at my grandchildren over the last weekend it was an amazing Memorial Day, one I will remember forever. My grand daughter decided it was time to let go of everything not for a moment, only to grab hold of whatever she could the next minute, or sit down, and crawl--but cruise the world. Her world was wherever she could outrun the rest of us. She was preoccupied with my keys. The keys kept her mind off whatever fear she had of letting go and walking. So, walk she did. She pivoted, she bent over and picked up things, she ran from adults coming to get her...and the entire time holding onto those keys. She found her chatter. She always would say a few words, like Momma, Dadda, DeDa, Nonna, but this time we couldn't understand a word she said, but she was having a happy conversation with herself perusing the house and holding on to those keys.

Lesson I learned? When we have something we can hold on to, we are brave. We are more focused, so things that were once hard become much easier. It did not matter that in her world those keys were useless. She had no idea what to do with the keys, that they could start a car--a car that she couldn't even reach the gas pedal to as of yet. No, all that mattered is she held something that took her mind off the fears and allowed her to step into the world of "Toddler."

So, my friends what do you need to grab hold of that will give you the courage to take that next step? Let go of what's around you that has been your crutch or security? There is a whole new world out there to be discovered. Take the keys and step into your new phase with confidence.

Remembering Memorial Day

When I was a little girl we use to make cardboard Poppies. I never knew why. In fact I had forgotten until I began to research for this Blog. I just remember as a grade school student drawling and cutting out these pretty flowers and our teacher writing names on the flower. Little did I know about the tradition and symbol. Here is the poem that stirred a tradition of wearing a red poppy on Memorial Day:

ACTION STEP: Remember those that have served our country and pay tribute in some way. If you have had, or currently have a family member who served, post their picture on social media with a thank you. Say a prayer for this great nation. Spend some time with family and friends and make memories.

I have been preparing for a conference I will be doing in Colorado. The theme is, "Seize the Moment." I'd like to believe that I have done that all my life, "Seize the Moment." I usually find myself picking up the pace before I tell myself to slow down. It's been hard. No, not just this pass year, but life in general. I don't know what ever caused me to believe that it would be otherwise. Perhaps, it was youth. Perhaps, it was that most things, at least physically were easy. I know I will never run a 4:56 second mile again. But, I believe I will run. Okay, I am recently considering that it may not be a marathon but maybe a half-marathon. Injuries, trauma's, accidents, cause us to re-think and slow us down.

See, surgery changes things. It changed me. Sometimes surgery is physical, other times it is psychological. For me, knee surgery has been both. It slowed me down. Nah, it stopped me. Something that had never before failed me--failed me. It was a trigger. I never thought--of all things, my legs would fail me. They had always been the strongest thing on my body. They carried me through, life with never a complaint. Ran me though the stages of life carrying whatever wait I put on them; whatever baggage I lugged from destination to destination--until they didn't.

Just one of them got injured. A right menial meniscus tear. Seemed simple enough to fix right? Not at all. No one wanted to do it. Everyone had a different opinion about how to fix it. I personally tried everything I could. Faith it. Ignore it. Brace it. Lay hands on it. Have others lay hands on it. Pray for it. Research it. Medicate it. Ice it. The list goes on. I truly had to go to three doctors to find one who would do what I knew needed done all along. I needed fixed. Fixed meant surgery. I didn't want that long process--really. I just wanted fixed. A quick fix. A miracle.

Sometimes quick fixes come in long processes. Embrace the process. I realized pain sometimes gets way worst before it gets better. That's when we question the process. We question ourselves. We question the doctors. We question God...

On the other side of the seemingly long process I am putting one foot in front of the other. I'm slower to step out. I worry more about uneven pavement. I'm not in such a hurry. I am not the leader of the pack. I have to ask for help.

Sometimes, people are rude and inconsiderate. People don't slow down for our crutches or our wheelchairs. Most don't consider holding a door open for the wounded. The masses seem to stare at the crippled or quickly look away for fear of having to get involved. Seize the moment anyway. Go for what lies ahead anyway. Refuse to stop and sit on the sidelines. Do what you must to get back up and go again.

By now you realize I am not just referring to my knee surgery. I am talking to you about life. Leave your legacy. Make a way for others to follow. Drawl a map. Find the answers.

ACTION STEP: Start over anyways. Yes, it's going to be slow. Yes, it's going to be painful. Do it anyways. Yes, you will feel as though you will never get back to where and what you were. So what? Just do it. I will never run at 4:56 second mile again. But, I will run again. I may never do a marathon again? I will however, run my own race. I will only run against myself and for the legacy I am called to leave. I will seize the moment.

Keeping your word to your own hurt.

1 John 2:5
"But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him."

As I write my book on Abandonment I am processing a lot about my own life issues, of which one is trust. I feel like Marlin in the Nemo movie where Dory says, "Just trust me." I think to myself, "Easier said than done."

When a child can not trust a person in authority, their parents, or teachers to name a few, it causes them to question everyone. The child grows up and wonders can anyone be trusted? This causes issues with them trusting others enough to enter into a relationship, marry, trust an employer, etc. This sets many up to be lone rangers, independent, and disappointed in others.

Our words are important. The Bible says life and death are in the power of our tongue. So, what we say to ourselves and to others really matters. Better to say nothing and make no vow or promise than to make one and break it. Proverbs 18:4 tells us a person's words can be life-giving water. There are a lot of people out there in this big ole world who need a drink. Let's make our words life-giving.

ACTION STEP: Do a study on Words, mouth, and tongue, from the Bible. You will be amazed at how much the Word of God says about what we say. Then, keep your word to yourself and to others. If you say you're going to do something, do it to your own hurt if necessary. People may not be counting on you, but your integrity to yourself matters, and can build or destroy your own confidence. I will be praying for you today to win the war on your words.

Most people never realize that those of us that are most successful are also the ones with the greatest adversity and most painful life experiences.

When I share with people that I have been abandoned by both my parents, not just once but numerous times. My husband and I lost our first born to a severe birth defect and died at 16 days old. Then, we experienced a horrific house fire where we lost everything. So, no doubt this video really resonated with me.

This is an article I truly enjoyed but didn't write. I copy and pasted. Her name is Raeeka and I don't endorse her. I found her while searching for information. I do that a lot. I am a true "Research Queen." I don't do everything she does anymore than doing what Judas did because I read the Bible, but I do learn something every time I read the Bible. So here it is:

For me, disappointment is one of life’s most uncomfortable feelings. It’s complex, containing a subset of other emotions like anger, hurt, sadness, and probably many others too subtle to identify.

Sometimes, those emotions by themselves are easier to deal with, but disappointment can leave me at a loose end.

I might not be sure whether I should feel angry, or just impatiently wish that I would hurry up and get over it. Disappointment can hover at the front of your mind and niggle at the back, bringing you a grey perspective on life, even if you’re trying to forget about it.

Here are 4 steps I’ve recently identified in my own process for genuinely getting past disappointment:

1. Let it out. One of the hardest things to do in a world where everything is immediate—we are all under external pressure, and time is a scarce resource—is to just let yourself experience a feeling.

Even at the most difficulties times, such as grieving, on average we only allow ourselves 1 to 2 weeks off or work, and then we mostly expect to get back into normality again.

Human beings are not very good at allowing the experiencing of emotions in full without trying to speed up the process. The only time we have this ability in its purest sense is when we are young children who have yet to be told or taught what is socially acceptable.

Children will tantrum and cry and scream, or laugh until it runs out and they are genuinely ready to move on.

I’m not suggesting we lock ourselves away for weeks at a time whenever we have been disappointed, but to be aware of any sense of obligation to “just get over it.”
Allow yourself to feel what you’re feeling without any agenda of speeding up the process. Whatever you are feeling is OK. Take some time to just sit with your emotion and experience it without moving to fix or change it.

Genuinely experiencing emotions, no matter how painful, is one of the beauties of life. Don’t shy away from these moments. Be present in them.

2. Get some perspective. The wonderful thing about letting it out is that you have given yourself that time. You have said to yourself, “I care about you. I want to allow you to feel what you need to feel and I do not wish to push you or cajole you.”
You have treated yourself like a friend and allowed yourself the space you needed to experience your feelings of disappointment.

Once you’ve done that, it becomes much easier to get some perspective. After you give yourself space to feel, you’re able to give the situation or individuals involved more room to breathe.

Perhaps the person who you feel disappointed by doesn’t even realize they’ve done something to upset you. Maybe they’re stressed out and don’t have the emotional bandwidth to think about it because they aren’t allowing themselves time to experience their emotions.

Giving yourself space to be as you are prepares you to allow the same to other people.

Having a broader perspective than your own view on a particular situation is always helpful. The critical point here is that you have to mean it. Rushing onto gaining perspective before you’ve allowed yourself to be with how you feel will be artificial and will not last.

3. Know your own heart. Disappointment can ripple through to the core of who you are. If you don’t know what your core values are, you may not have a framework to support you when you experience negative emotions.

For example, one of my core values is open-heartedness. I wish to keep an open heart and be ready to share love and kindness with others, irrespective of how they might behave.

I would like to always try to choose to act with love and kindness towards others, rather than with negativity.

When someone disappoints me and I feel like closing and withdrawing, I remember this core value, then pause and make a choice.

I wish to be an open-hearted person. These negative feelings are feelings, and they will pass. Do I choose to remain open-hearted, or do I choose to follow the easier instinct and close off?

More often than not, I choose to be in line with my values over the automatic response to the situation. It doesn’t happen every single time, but most.

Knowing your own heart and your values gives you the freedom of choice. You can choose to be driven by what happens to you, or you can choose to live in line with your principles.

The latter has helped me to overcome disappointments and negative situations in a healthy way. The challenge of disappointment allows me to practice living closer to my values, and stops me from being swallowed up by it.

4. Practice acceptance. As human beings, even though we know that some things are bound to happen, we’re not always willing to accept them.

Every time I am disappointed, I feel overwhelmed by my emotions. I’m inclined to withdraw and blame others, wanting to wallow in my disappointment. Each time, I have to accept that I will feel these things again.

I have to accept that I will continue to be disappointed—that it is a part of life, part of being human. I also have to accept that I will probably continue to struggle to accept this fact, at various points throughout the rest of my life!

This step is a lifelong challenge and fundamental to dealing with disappointment. I will be disappointed, I will disappoint, you will be disappointed, and you will disappoint. Life will be disappointing—but it will pass.

Practice acceptance and we may suffer less as it is happening and notice the good things in life more.

Disappointment is a part of life, but all parts of life can help us grow. We can be present and aware even in the midst of negative emotions and therefore live more fully.

ACTION STEP: Get out there and "Row the Boat." We have all been in the deepest valley's as well as the top of the mountain. I personally have so many books written by Jon Gordon and everyone of them is one of the best books I have ever read. This one I am sure will be another winner. We all have to row through adversity not just rise to success.

What's heavy on your plate today?

When we stand beside a brother or sister in a time of struggle, we are living out the call of our Heavenly Father.
We Can Fulfill the Law of Christ Jesus says, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ” Galatians 6:2.
We are called to love our neighbor as ourselves.

Maybe today you just need someone to come along side of you and help you carry the load? Maybe, what's on your plate is disappointment or worry? If you have been abandoned, rejected, or violated by someone you trusted it may be hard to reach out and ask for help. But, help is what you need. Help is what we all need from time to time. Sure, it may be hard to trust, but trust is exactly what we must learn to do again. Take baby steps. Reach out and ask for some small act of help. Exercise your trust muscle. I literally started trusting people with their driving directions. Seriously, instead of telling them every turn to make, I made a conscious effort to be silent. So what if they had to make a u-turn? We still made it to our destination and I carried less of the stress. Then, I moved to a Starbucks orders. "Just get me what you think I'd like." Seriously? Yes, that was huge for me. I learned I liked some new things and I learned what never to order again. I'm all the way up to asking people what they think about some pretty serious thoughts and decisions. Baby steps! People will fail you, but hey you have failed yourself at times and no doubt failed others. Failure is part of living. Live anyways!

ACTION STEP: Take a chance today. Ask someone to help you carry whatever is on your plate. Can't do that? Okay, start with a baby step. Ask someone to help you with something small that isn't super important and then trust them with whatever the outcome.

Today, my grandsons made their beds and it was the best they ever did. They are only 7 yr. and 5 yr. old. But, they have been working on that task since they started spending the night. I used to remake it. Then, I decided nope. Leave it so they can see what they did the last time. You know what? They noticed, and each time they improve. So does my Starbucks and my anxiety while someone else is behind the wheel.

Trusting God in the Process.

Proverbs 3:5
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths."

Perhaps you’ve been told that as a Christian you must learn to “trust in the Lord with all your heart.” But this famous passage from Proverbs 3 contains more than just a general statement about living. Instead, you’ll find the steps you need each day to truly walk with God.
Follow these 7 daily steps to make sure you’re leaning on the Lord:
1. Don’t Depend on You. We live in a world where trust must be earned and seems to be in short supply. But Solomon, the famous king who wrote Proverbs, knew that trust is exactly where we must start:
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5)
Most of us have faced disappointments, which have taught us that we can only depend upon ourselves. But living the life God has called us to means unlearning that lesson. Instead, we’re meant to rest in God’s understanding.
We may know in our minds that He possesses all wisdom:
“Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!” Romans 11:33
But sometimes trusting Him completely like that can be tough. So, each day we must consciously lay aside our own plans and expectations—and surrender to His plans.
What if we don’t feel like we can trust Him like that? That’s where step 2 comes in…
2. Cry out to God Surrendering to God begins with our lips and our thoughts. We need more than a commitment to depend on Him; we need to cry out to Him to show that dependence.
“in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:6)
When we pray, we admit that His ways are higher than ours. We show that we’re leaving our troubles and burdens and dreams in His capable hands. In fact, the Bible promises that when we reach out to Him in prayer, He hears us:
“Evening, morning, and noon I cry out in distress, and he hears my voice. ” (Psalm 55:17)
We handed the keys of our lives to Him, and we know that He’s able to lead us. But in order for that to work, we have to…
3. Run from Evil. So much in this world can clutter up our relationship with God. John, the writer of the fourth gospel, describes them as the desires of the flesh, the lusts of the eyes, and the pride in our lives (1 John 2:16). In other words, our blessings can easily become our stumbling blocks when we think of them as what we deserve or what we need to be happy.
Instead, life works best when we remember the true source of our blessings—God—and focus on the things that please Him:
“Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil.” (Proverbs 3:7)
Sometimes, the only way to live the life God wants us to live is by separating ourselves from the bad influences that keep dragging us down. That works the best when we start pursuing something else in their place:
“Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” (2 Timothy 2:22)
Is that easy? Not at all. Fleeing from the evil desires that pull at us means spending a lot of time crying out to God and leaning on Him. But our Creator promises to honor our commitment to Him when we shun evil:
“This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.” (Proverbs 3:8)
When we pursue Him, we find life—abundant life. Running from evil and pursuing God doesn’t come naturally to most of us. Instead, it means we have to make a serious change:
4. Put God First in Your Life. It’s easiest to put ourselves first. When something good happens, we want to congratulate ourselves with a reward. When something bad happens, we want to console ourselves or find someone to blame. In other words, we often have a “me-centric” starting place.
And when it comes to money, the struggle is even harder. But Solomon, who had quite a bit of wealth himself, knew that his money didn’t belong to him:
“Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.” (Proverbs 3:9–10)
If we can trust God with the first of our wealth, we’re truly showing how much we depend on Him. Handing over the first part of our paycheck takes a huge amount of faith, after all. But doing so means being God-centric.
To get there, though, make sure you…
5. Check Yourself by God’s Word. Let’s be honest. We aren’t so good at evaluating ourselves. We will go to great lengths to excuse our behavior, our actions, and our sins. Who needs a defense attorney when we can pretty much find a reason for any bad thing we do? The prophet Jeremiah captures this very well:
“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” (Jeremiah 17:9)
If we’re ever going to truly trust in God and flee evil, we have to know exactly where we stand. We have to find an objective measure that tells us the truth. And that truth comes from God and His Word.
Of course, that doesn’t mean we’ll always like what we see or how we see it:
“My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline and do not resent his rebuke” (Proverbs 3:11)
That’s right. Sometimes it takes something bad happening or seeing ourselves in a bad light before we finally admit that we need to change. And the more we’re in the Bible, the more likely this is to happen.
“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” (Psalm 119:11)
When we have Scripture planted firmly in our hearts, God will often use that to deal with us.
6. Listen to the Holy Spirit. When Jesus promised to send the Holy Spirit to the church, He told His disciples that this Counselor would be their spiritual compass or GPS:
“But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” (John 14:26)
As we go through our day, this same Holy Spirit guides us, too. That means we don’t have to go it alone or hope we’re getting it right. No, the Holy Spirit leads us into all truth and protects us:
“Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you—guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.” (2 Timothy 1:14)
After all, the gift of the Holy Spirit to us believers reminds us that we can truly…
7. Rest in God’s Love. When we face a difficult world each day, we can sometimes wonder if God even cares. Why do bad things happen? Where is God when I need Him? Solomon reminds us that God never takes a break or leaves us to fend for ourselves:
“because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.” (Proverbs 3:12)
Even in the midst of turmoil, God sticks with us and uses those challenges to shape us. When we understand that, our perspective completely flips. No longer do we see our setbacks as failures; we see them as moments when God, as our loving Father, works on us.
And that’s exactly why we can trust in the Lord with all our hearts. He cares for us each and every day. He gives us what we need to thrive. He pours blessing after blessing upon us.
Of course, following each of these daily steps isn’t easy. That’s why Jesus said we have to deny ourselves and follow Him (Matthew 16:24). Trusting God takes a whole-hearted commitment from dawn till dusk. But we’re never alone in it:
“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20b)

ACTION STEP: Take what you are waiting on God for and find scriptures to build a confession. Take for example a spouse, you can begin by saying: "God your word says that it is not good to be alone so I am counting on you, trusting you to bring me a mate, a helpmeet, a spouse. You said in your word that you would give me the desires of my heart--I desire to be married. You said be fruitful and multiply. I desire children and want to bear children at a young age. Hear my prayer God."

I hope this gets you started off in the right direction.

Journey to forgiveness.

LUKE 17:1-4 TPT
"One day Jesus taught his disciples: “Betrayals[a] are inevitable, but great devastation will come to the one guilty of betraying others. It would be better for him to have a heavy boulder tied around his neck and be hurled into the deepest sea than to face the punishment of betraying one of my dear ones! So be alert to your brother’s condition, and if you see him going the wrong direction, cry out and correct him. If there is true repentance on his part, forgive him. No matter how many times in one day your brother sins against you and says, ‘I’m sorry; I am changing; forgive me,’ you need to forgive him each and every time.”

Forgiveness is difficult in part because we do not understand it properly.
At this point it is necessary to clear up some of the misconceptions about forgiveness. In some ways, it is easier to say what forgiveness is not than what it is. These misconceptions matter because sometimes when we say we can’t or won’t forgive, we are actually talking about something other than biblical forgiveness. Let me list a few things forgiveness does not mean:

It does not mean approving of what someone else did.
It does not mean pretending that evil never took place.
It does not mean making excuses for other people’s bad behavior.
It does not mean justifying evil so that sin somehow becomes less sinful.
It does not mean overlooking abuse.
It does not mean denying that others tried to hurt you repeatedly.
It does not mean letting others walk all over you.
It does not mean refusing to press charges when a crime has been committed.
It does not mean forgetting the wrong that was done.
It does not mean pretending that you were never hurt.
It does not mean that you must restore the relationship to what it was before.
It does not mean that you must become best friends again.
It does not mean there must be a total reconciliation as if nothing ever happened.
It does not mean that you must tell the person that you have forgiven them.
It does not mean that all negative consequences of sin are canceled.

Forgiveness in its essence is a decision made on the inside to refuse to live in the past. It’s a conscious choice to release others from their sins against you so that you can be set free. It doesn’t deny the pain or change the past, but it does break the cycle of bitterness that binds you to the wounds of yesterday. Forgiveness allows you to let go and move on.

ACTION STEP: Allow yourself some time to listen to the above video. Then ask yourself if you have ought against anyone, including yourself. Those of us that have been abandoned, violated or experienced trauma may have a harder time actually processing the need to forgive. We have perhaps shoved it so far down that we actually have refused to feel and process. Do it anyway. It is truly freeing and necessary.

We won't put off telling you about out the origins of "procrastinate."
English speakers borrowed the word in the 16th century from Latin procrastinatus, which itself evolved from the prefix pro-, meaning "forward," and crastinus, meaning "of tomorrow."
Like its synonyms "delay," "lag," "loiter," "dawdle," and "dally," "procrastinate" means to move or act slowly so as to fall behind. It typically implies blameworthy delay especially through laziness or apathy.

I hear it all the time, "I just keep putting it off." "Can you help me figure out why I don't do, what I know I should?" "I need help. I can't make myself do what I know I should do."

I am learning it's okay to be me. This new revelation has freed me to take control of my life. It doesn't matter whether people understand me or are like me. We are all free to be individuals. Everyone is different and that's okay. To live your best life we all need to take control of our calendar and plan the life that will bring God glory and bring balance to our life. This blog today can bring you the help you may be looking for. Have a great day!

This is one of the most life changing tools I have ever heard of, if you use it. I wish someone would have shared this with me years ago. I hope you find this as enlightening as I have. True to Bobb Biehl's video below (view in your Browser or click the link below) we have certain dates that never change. Our Anniversary, Christmas, Birthdays, always stay the same. We have conferences and seminars that are always on the same weekend. I have a Condo that is always the same week every year. In the video below, Bobb helps us set an annual calendar and then from there fill out your yearly calendar. Too me this has been a brainstorming epiphany, not just for regularly occurring events but for the slow times, depressing times, busy times of the year that happen to all of us, and rather control them, they tend to control us. It doesn't have to be that way.
