Hey Sleepy head!

I woke up this morning with my husband singing to me the song, "sleeping the night away". I'm not sure it is even a real song. Nevertheless I literally slept the night away. I thought I would lay down for a little nap and the next thing I knew he woke me up to tell me to come to bed. I guess I got there because that's where I woke up this morning.

Has this ever happened to you? Do you ever wonder why you need so much sleep. I mean I'm the kinda person that if my body will go along with me, we will just skip sleep. Right? I mean after all there are so many things to do, places to go and people to meet. As a matter of fact Black Friday I argue with my body and make deals with it and tell it that it can sleep Saturday afternoon.  Who does that? Am I all alone out here?
Picture
1 Corinthians 15:51 (KJV)
“Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,”

God is so gracious He gives us sweet sleep.

"In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat-- for he grants sleep to those he loves."  Psalm 127:2 (NIV)

The day seems totally different after a good nights sleep.  Problems don't seem so big after a good nights sleep. When you are sick or just fighting a cold sometimes a good nights sleep will be just what you need to send that virus or germ packing. God designed our bodies with everything we need to live a long and healthy life.

Let's just take a little time and praise Him for all He has done for us. Praise Him for the things you can see and acknowledge Him for the things you don't see or notice.  Every organ in your body is working right now and you can't tell until they don't.  So don't wait until something isn't working to talk with Him.  Talk to Him now.

Psalm 59:16 (NIV) "But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble."

Long-suffering and our relationships.

Good morning friends. Thanks again for journeying through life with me here at RPMDaily Blog. Lately  I have been studying the subject of the Fruit of the Spirit.  Yesterday my husband shared on the attribute "Long-suffering".  The scripture that he used was, Mark 9:19 (KJV) "He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me."  I personally like the (NIV) translation. Mark 9:19 ""You unbelieving generation," Jesus replied, "how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me."  Wow! You mean to tell me even Jesus suffered long? Absolutely.

Sometimes I feel like Jesus.  How long do I have to put up with __________________ and you fill in the blank.  It could be the man at work, the lady at the Post Office, your teenager, her mother, his ex-wife....whoever it is--how long?  Truthfully the Bible tells us we long-suffer indefinitely.  It is not about them it is about us.  We are to be "Long-suffering."  If we are a Christian then because we are rooted and grounded in Christ we pull out of our relationship with Christ what we need.

So who is it in your life that you want to write off? May I encourage you to check out what the Bible says? Prove to the devil he doesn't call the shots in your life. You are set-free from his influence in your life and as for you and your house? You serve God!

Lost item in purse....Argh!

So in my rush over the holidays I sat down and paid all my bills. I put stamps on the envelopes and then we had to hurry out of town for a funeral.  I never gave those bills a second thought until today.  There were three sections to that very expensive Coach Purse. I will never use again. I was in the center section a million times. I never really bothered with those other two sections, until today. Those bills I paid back in December were still in there. One was due today. So I made a mad rush to the store only to find out that they do not take payments at the store.  The other one was due the 7th. Needless to say this was an expensive mistake on my part. I was angry. Disappointed. But it got me thinking. How many times do we start a task and think we will finish it only to find out we never followed through? Worst yet we know we didn't finish the task to completion but out of sight--out of mind. Those things we met to take care of have a way of creeping back up into our future only to cost us more.
Picture
Finish what you start.  Jesus is the author and the finisher. He is our model. I plan to get rid of that purse. My word to pay my bills on time is a reflection of my character.  I mailed them out and plan to pay the penalties. It's a lesson learned. Painful but memorable.

How about you? Got any unfinished business?
2 Corinthians 8:11 ESV "So now finish doing it as well, so that your readiness in desiring it may be matched by your completing it out of what you have."

Philippians 1:6 ESV " And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ."

Ecclesiastes 7:8 ESV "Better is the end of a thing than its beginning, and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit."

The Gifts He Wants To Give Us

1/12/2017

God wants to communicate with us.  It is God's desire that we understand Him and look to Him for direction. Think about it. When you and I have the answers to questions that others may be asking there is something in us that wants to be the solution giver.  If I know how to stop bleeding and I see you laying there with your life source running out of you I feel compelled to assist.
Picture
God is a whole lot more giving than you or I. He said when He went back to be with Father God that He would not leave us alone but send to us the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit's main job is to show us and lead us. God does not want us ignorant about His purposes for our life. If you've got questions??? He's got answers.
John 16:13 (NIV) "But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come."

"We all pee the same color."~quote from the movie Hidden Figures.

I checked out the movie Hidden Figures. It was a great movie. I don't want to ruin it for any one who plans to go see it but I will tell you this it made me angry.  I hate prejudice. It is unfair and hurtful. Most people would shy away from mentioning this in Blog but I believe we need to remember our past so we don't repeat it. I encourage you to go see the movie.

God created us all equal.  Love doesn't see gender, color, or nationality it simply loves.  The fruit of the Spirit is Love.

Galatians 5:22-23 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)22 But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness,23 Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [[a]that can bring a charge].

The sins of the flesh are Galations 5:19-21 (NIV)

"19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God."

So the choice is ours.  Will we display the fruit of the Spirit or will we act out of the flesh? Our actions will determine our ultimate destiny for eternity.  Our actions will let others know what spirit we are of. In order to act out of our reborn spirit we need to be connected to the right life source.

Good trees produce good fruit.

Matthew 7:17 (NIV) "Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit."

Spiritual Seasons

Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NIV) "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:"
Picture
I really dislike Winter. I don't enjoy being cold. I dislike dreary and dirty. I like sunshine. I don't mind being hot and I love pretty.  Summer is pretty. So many times I ask God send me someplace warm. However, here I am in the heart of West Virginia where we experience all four seasons. I do think that Winter last the longest and even if it doesn't perception is reality.

It's the same with our spiritual seasons.  It always seems as though Winter last the longest. Those season when like the trees we feel naked and exposed. We feel as though we will never be warm, loved, beautiful or at peace every again, but we will.  Just like the trees of the field.

When we think about our spiritual lives in terms of seasons, I think there is a benefit to it.
It helps us to understand that there are different stages in our spiritual lives. That different internal and external circumstances play a part in the seasons that we go through.
For example, a mother or father with 3 young kids, or someone who is serving as a caregiver for someone else, will likely have a tough time growing spiritually for themselves as they have to care for others. I am not saying that must be the case, but often it is.
Another benefit to see our spiritual lives as seasons is that it helps us to have hope that if we are in a season we are not happy with, we can do something to begin to move to a more positive season.
And the truth is my spiritual life is like this. I have gone through all four seasons in my own spiritual life, from high and optimistic to low and pessimistic.
And if you think that a Christian should be always on fire for the Lord, well, for people who live near the Equator, they might always be hot, but for many people, they experience different seasons of life, including their spiritual life.

Abraham had his great faith moments, but he also demonstrated lack of faith in his life too when he lied about his wife. David had spiritually close experiences with the Lord, but he also sinned against man and God. Jonah was a coward before he was courageous.
Most men and women in the Bible experienced their spiritual life as a series of ups and downs and not always ups. So I think there is validity to think of our spiritual lives as composed of different seasons.
If that is the case, then I have put down some key words for each of the seasons to better help us understand where we might be in our own spiritual life.
A. Spring
Hopeful, emerging, budding
B. Summer
Fruitful, blessings, growing
C. Fall
Weakening, fading, cooling
D. Winter
Cold, lifeless, dead

If you don't like the Season that you are in begin to praise God for the new season to break forth speedily. Begin to make plans for your new season. Make your new season "to do" list.  Begin to schedule time daily to seek God for the direction you need in your new season.  See yourself doing what you love.  Just like the longest night has already passed for this year in the natural and it is beginning to stay daylight longer, your longest night is behind you as well.

Daniel 2:21 - And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:

Genesis 8:22 - While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

Acts 1:7 - And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

Galatians 6:9 - And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Psalms 104:19 - He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down.

Psalms 1:3 - And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Blame it on the fast but I've been thinking a lot about the Fruit of the Spirit. In fact I started a series on it today at my church called, "Holy Ghost GMO's".  I thought the title up while studying and learning that 3 attributes of the Fruit of the Spirit were for and only existent through our relationship with God, and tree were for our relationships with other Men and the last three for Ourselves and how we deal with the world...hence the title GMO's.

Today I shared Love, Joy and Peace. Next week my husband will share on three more and finally the next Sunday we will conclude with the last three. But let me share about being faithful even when you don't feel like it.  We've all been there. We have committed ourselves to something and when that something comes we've changed our minds. We're in a different season.  The summer of easy breezy "I can do it" turns to the winter chill of "I don't think I have what it takes" and we struggle.  Feelings of inadequacy and failure take the place of motivation and masterpiece.  What do we do? We operate out of the Fruit of the Spirit. It's in our DNA of the born again life. Allow what's in you to come out.

He never changed His mind. I'm so glad He doesn't change His mind about loving me, saving me, healing me, for all eternity.  Through every season He is FAITHFUL.
Summer~Autumn ~Winter~Spring He is faithful and He lives in me.
Action Step: Call a friend and ask them to help you. Maybe you just need an idea to run with. You got the goods you just need your handle pumped. Like a dry pump there's water in there.  You just need to prime the pump.
Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God  who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,

Writing "Thank You's" and the gift that keeps on giving.

When Christmas is over and things start to settle down I begin to think of all the wonderful gifts I have received and that I have given.  I think of the people that gave the gift and the faces of those when they opened their gifts and I can recapture their faces.  Christmas seems to be able to be re-lived all over again for those moments.
Picture
John 3:16 (NIV) "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
Then I had this thought. The Bible, God's word continues to give every moment of every day.  Salvation is the gift that we all need. It fits us all perfectly.  It brings more joy that any other gift we could ever receive.  Jesus freely gave His life to purchase that gift for us. Open the gift today.  You can have Christmas any day--any time.

When I'm weak then I learn His strength.

2 Corinthians 12:10 (KJV)"10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong."
Picture
It always amazes me when I have done what I can and still feel so weak or unprepared or not good enough that God just shows up and shows off and does something wonderful through me. If I do my part He always does His part.  God knows our weaknesses and it doesn't stop Him. His desire is to work through us. God's plan not man's plan was to use man to win the world to Himself. Why would He do that? I know I sure wouldn't. Yet, that is His plan.

Whatever you are going through--keep going.  God will not
fail you.

Saying Goodbye can be just Saying Hello Again in another place.

Funerals never get old or dull for me. Every time I do one as a minister it is like the first one I have ever done. Why? Because it is the first one for this person.  All the family and stories are different. Some are sad and unexpected others are anticipated and welcomed.  I pray all of ours will be the later.  They are like a sweet goodbye that warms the heart because the heart knows there will be a hello again.
Picture
This week a friend of mine told me about the last few minutes he had with his father.  His father pulled him close and said, "You're my best friend."  That statement has stayed with me all week.  I keep thinking about it.  I realized that is every parent’s dream, to raise a child that can truly become your best friend.

That's what Jesus's parents did.  Even though Jesus was not Joseph’s true son. Even though Jesus was Mary's son of other sons, he--Jesus became their best friend.

The Bible tells us that Jesus wants to be all of our friends.

Matthew 11:19 (NIV) "The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.' But wisdom is proved right by her deeds."

John 15:15 (NIV) "I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you."

Don't wait to tell those whom you love that they are your friend, and that you love them.  It is a wonderful legacy to leave a person--knowing they are loved by you.  Too often death is a thief and it stills the words we want to say from us...leaving them unsaid.

1 Thessalonians 5:2 (NLT) "For you know quite well that the day of the Lord's return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night."

In loving memory of
